The Great Waters Challenge - Challenge #1

For our first challenge, we decided to make a video to introduce ourselves. This is what we made. Special thanks to Shelley for editing and filming this video for us!

The Great Waters Challenge - Challenge #2

Over the past few weeks, we have been visiting Hilton Falls in Milton to explore around and look for landmarks. What we saw was the remains of three sawmills from the 19th century. In the past, the mills supplied wood for the Nessageaweya Township which was a geographic township, but now a part of Milton. Two of the three mills burned down and then 50 years ago, the place was abandoned. Now it is a historical landmark standing beside the beautiful, natural waterfalls at the end of the hike. Here are a couple pictures we took on our journey.

The Great Waters Challenge - Challenge #3

In honour of World Water Day on March 22, we held a couple of assemblies in our gymnasium for all the students of our school. Mr. Dinner, our teacher-advisor led off the assemblies with a neat activity where the kids rubbed hands, snapped fingers, and stomped their feet to make it sound like it was raining. From there we shared with the students all about what we have done for the first two challenges and then talked about the learning we've done these last few weeks, especially on the visit from our advisor, Faris. We did a slide show presentation, showed our website and video, and then had a quick little quiz for the kids. It went much better than we thought because we were pretty nervous, but with the help of our assembly committee, we think we accomplished our goal of spreading awareness of the importance of water in our lives. Before and after each assembly we interviewed a few students to get their ideas about what they knew before and what they learned during the assembly and to let us know if we achieved our goal of spreading the awareness of the importance of water. Videos of the interviews should be ready soon.
