Our First Adventure as a Group!

Rawan, Shelley, Zainab and I just recently came together as a group for the Great Waters Challenge and for our first challenge, we all went to Bronte creek, our watershed. We did a 45 minute hike to get to the water and along the way we found a ton of garbage and stuff that people left on their hikes. Once we got down to the water, we started filming our video, introducing ourselves which you can find the link to on our challenge page! In the video we said some facts about our watershed and we did a garbage clean up around the place. In the water we found an old tire and some plastic bags which we could not get out because they were in the middle of the river. -Sydney B

Trip to Hilton Falls

For our second challenge, we all went to Hilton Falls in Milton to look around for landmarks in the area. We saw the remains of three sawmills from sometime in the 19th century. We found out that the mills were used to supply wood for the Nessageweya Township. Two out of the three mills burned down and then half a decade ago, the place was abandoned. It is now a historical landmark beside the beautiful waterfall at the end of the hike we took throughout. We took a bunch of pictures of our journey which you can find on our challenge page. We had soo much fun going on this adventure and we hope to go again sometime soon! -Zainab

Faris Arrived!

Today we had a special guest, he works with helping and teaching about water. We were lucky to be able to get him to visit a few of the students here at Orchard Park to teach us more about water and why it's important. We surely learn some really amazing facts and that every water found is different, " while students may think that the stream in their backyard is boring and uninteresting, it likely has critical roles in sustaining an ecosystem, and contributing to a larger watershed." We later went on to organizing a water day the school could enjoy, having fun while learning. We all shared ideas and got off to a great start. His visit helped a lot and we are glad he was able to come. -Shelley S

Upcoming Water Day Assembly

The deadline for the third challenge is coming up and for it, we decided to run an assembly about what we have learned about water. We wanted to make it informative yet fun for all the students of our school. Our assembly will be held March 22nd, which is, in fact, World Water Day! We started planning everything out and we have gotten most of it done. We just need to do a couple more things to make sure this assembly is going to be perfect! A couple of things we have decided on doing at the assembly are we are going to show our video we have made for challenge 1, show our website, and play a game at the end to test out the students' knowledge on water. We can't wait for Thursday to come so we can present all of this to the school! -Rawan

Finished Assembly!

Yesterday, we completed our third challenge and it was super fun! We put together an assembly with some other members of the ECO club. Period 3, we presented the assembly to the grades 1-4 and period 4 was for the grades 5-8.
