All 7th and 11th grade students receive an audiometric screening to evaluate their hearing. If any concerns are identified, the school nurse will notify you directly.
Visual acuity screenings shall be conducted every two years for students in grades 6 through 10. If a potential vision issue is identified, a referral notice will be sent home. If your child receives follow-up care based on this referral, please inform the school nurse.
Screening for height, weight and blood pressure shall be conducted annually for each student in grade 6 through grade 12
In accordance with New Jersey state law, all Boards of Education are required to screen students between the ages of 10 and 18 for scoliosis.
The purpose of this screening is early detection, as spinal curvatures can often be managed effectively when identified early. Students found to have signs of scoliosis should follow up with their primary healthcare provider. Referral to an orthopedic specialist or clinic may also be recommended.
Screenings may be performed by the school physician, school nurse, physical education instructor, or other properly trained school personnel, or by the student’s own family physician.
