Hello Humboldt County School District Families!
Welcome back! It is so nice to see student faces back in our buildings. The hallways and classrooms are full of smiles again and our hearts are so full. We know that this year is starting off with a different look than previous school years and is most likely full of a variety of different feelings as well. Your HCSD School Counselors want you to know that we are here for you! As you encounter new challenges throughout this school year, please reach out to your children’s counselor for resources and support.
Each school has a separate Google Site where you will be able to find specific information for your child's school and distance learning. Please visit and bookmark these sites to stay up to date on your child's learning.
Bullying is defined by "unwanted, aggressive behavior among school-aged children that involves a real or perceived power imbalance. The behavior is repeated, or has the potential to be repeated, over time. Bullying includes actions such as making threats, spreading rumors, attacking someone physically or verbally, and excluding someone from a group on purpose" (stopbullying.gov).
Throughout October, elementary students (K-4) will be receiving weekly lessons on Fridays. These lessons will be using Second Step® Bullying Prevention Unit curriculum. Each week students will learn a new topic in preventing bullying.
Week 1 - Recognizing Bullying
Week 2 - Reporting Bullying
Week 3 - Refusing Bullying
Week 4 - Bystander Power
There will be activities included with each lesson for students to practice/talk about skills at home. Lessons will be available through students classroom sites; Clever, Google, etc.
Things to do at home:
Check out this comic series called Captain Compassion® organized by the Committee for Children. Each week during the month of October, a new comic will be released addressing a different aspect of bullying prevention.
