Kahoot Information
Teams compete by playing an online Kahoot game. In each round, there are 35 questions (3-4 questions per book), and there are three rounds in the competition. All 3 HCSD schools use the same questions and answers for each round.
Teams have 30 seconds to answer each question, with an additional 5 seconds at the beginning for team talk. The questions come from ALL of the books on the reading list. Some questions are easy, and some are more challenging. We do not use AI to write the questions, nor to provide answer choices. Each question is written, selected, and checked by the team of HCSD librarians. Questions are then written into the Kahoot and the order is randomized.
In the weeks leading up to the competition, during Library Skills, we will prepare by doing practice Kahoot! quizzes on class-read books in a similar style to the questions that will be in the Battle of the Books.
During the competition, team members sit together at the same table. The team talks about the question and works together to choose the best answer, while one teammate enters the answer on the computer for the team. Teams will be provided with a piece of paper with the four color & shape answer choices to point to during the competition as a way of silently communicating their thinking with each other. They have used this same paper for practices.
Prior to the Practice Round, students will draw a number randomly with their table assignment. This will be their table assignment for Round 1. Students will draw their table assignments prior to Round 2.
For Round 2 at South, we will show teams' ranking between each question and then, at the end of the competition we will show the top 3 teams. *If there are any glitches, an announcement will be made during the competition that rankings will not be shown until they are verified to be accurate and fair.* The top 2 teams will be advancing to the Final Round at West School on Tuesday, March 24th at 6pm.
