Grade 8 Historical Fiction Book Clubs

8th graders have formed book clubs based on their choice of historical fiction novel. Students chose from the following books: To Kill a Mockingbird, Jazz Owls, Watsons Go To Birmingham, Downstairs Girl, A Night Divided, Jazz Owls, and Under the Broken Sky. Students work together to decide on their group's reading schedule and work each day in class on a variety of assignments related to their book's historical setting, vocabulary, author's craft elements, and theme.

The Outsiders - Grade 7

In 7th grade, students are reading The Outsiders with a focus on how the author develops character. Students are working on groups to focus on one character and will complete a "Body Biography" finished project on their chosen character.

Additionally, students will work individually on a "Character Playlist" writing assignment, which asks them to create a playlist of three songs for their character and connect the song lyrics to text evidence supporting ideas about a character.
