I grew up in Gainesville, Florida (home of the University of Florida). My parents still live there, and I visit as often as I can.
I'm a graduate of Northwestern University (BS in Film) and University of Illinois at Chicago (MA in English). I earned my CLAD (Cross Cultural, Language & Academic Development) certificate from UC San Diego.
My teaching career began in the late 1990s at UIC, where I taught English Composition 100 and 101 to college freshmen while pursuing my MA in English Education. After earning my 6-12 teaching credential, I taught high school English at Proviso West High School in Hillside, Illinois and middle school at Westchester Middle School in Westchester, Illinois. I also served as English Department Chair at Westchester.
After moving to Hillsborough in 2017 with my family (after 20+ years in Chicago), I joined HCSD as a long term substitute in 2019, teaching 4th grade at North. I began teaching at Crocker in 2020.
I love speech and debate, drama, improv, dance, and musicals. I also teach the Improv & Drama elective at Crocker.
When not teaching, I enjoy family time with my husband, three kids (2 in college; one in HS), and beloved cat, Panini. I also love reading, podcasts, NYT Wordle/Spelling Bee, movies, and above all, getting outside and being active -- especially running. I've been trying to learn French over the last couple of years, but it hasn't gone too well :)
Halloween 2022! (I'm Wayne from Wayne's World, and Mrs. Woods is Ms. Frizzle from Magic School Bus)
