About the Educators

Perry Kittredge

Perry Kittredge teaches eighth graders at Crocker Middle School.  In his 20 year career at Crocker, Perry has taught math and social studies, as well as various electives.  For Perry, nature is a place of peace and also a place of great adventure.  Perry's favorite  adventures in nature include standing on top of Half Dome on a high school youth trip, trekking the Annapurna Circuit on an environmental service project in the central Himalaya, and watching the sun rise from the top of Mount Kilimanjaro with his wife.  Perry's love of cycling began in his early youth.  As a boy, he was exploring Bay Area roadways, started cycle touring in California in high school, and, following graduation, cycled from San Francisco to New York City.  Perry and his family are frequent visitors to Yosemite and love spending time finding new roadways and new destinations in the Bay Area.

Sally James

Sally James has been the teacher/librarian at South Hillsborough Elementary School since 2008.  Since she was a small child, nature has been a place of refuge, enlightenment, and joy for her. She attributes her love of nature to her father, who began taking her on overnight backpacking adventures in the Canadian wilderness when she was only 7.  Some of her favorite outdoor experiences include hiking Mount Whitney with her sisters, hiking to the top of Welcome Mountain in British Columbia with all three of her children, exploring Native Americans ruins in Lake Powell as a child with her family, backpacking the Lost Coast of California, and biking from SF to Los Angeles on the AIDS ride.

Jenelle Graville

Jenelle Graville is currently a 1stgrade teacher at South Hillsborough Elementary School and has been in education for over twenty years. Jenelle grew up in the Bay Area and spent much time hiking and biking with her family, locally and in the Lake Tahoe area. She passed on that love to her two boys (now in college) and they continue to take trips together to family favorites such as Yosemite, Santa Cruz/Monterey, and the Sierra Nevadas. They make it a point to spend time in nature on all family vacations. They have enjoyed kayaking down part of the Gardon River in France, hiking through state parks in Tennessee, exploring Mayan ruins on the island of Isla Mujeres, and hiking in Zion National Park. Jenelle also enjoys the calm of stand-up paddle boarding with her dog, Farley. Yes, he has a life jacket!
