How to: add all the fonts to Google Docs

One thing that I really love about Google Docs is the access you have to customize it to your liking.

Finding, downloading and installing nice looking fonts used to be the bane of a teachers existence. Do I really have to bother my computer technician to install this adorable Easter egg font?

Google Docs (and other apps within Google Drive) takes this process and cuts out the middle man, giving you direct access to install as many funky fonts as you want.

Prepare yourself to spend far too much time browsing fonts...

BROWSE the google font library

You can access the Google Font library from within Google Docs:

  • First, click on the Font drop-down menu (the default font is Arial), and then select More fonts... at the very bottom of that menu.

There is no limit as to how many fonts you add to your menu, and you'll have access to the fonts you add on any device you use to connect to Google Drive.

  • Now, shop for fonts!

  • Use the Show drop-down menu to filter the fonts you see:

    • Display fonts are often thicker and bolder, better for titling

    • Handwriting fonts have a more hand-made look, and including cursive script fonts

    • Monospace fonts are fonts that have characters that all take up the exact same amount of horizontal space

  • Use the Sort drop-down menu to arrange the fonts based on what is trending or most popular all time.

  • To add a font to your menu, just click it. Once you're done shopping, click the blue OK button.
