Getting started with Google Classroom is easy. The first steps involve simply creating the Google Classroom digital space, and populating it with students.
Start by visiting the Google Classroom website, and logging in with your Google account credentials.
Once logged in, you'll see the screen below. Find the plus sign in the upper-right hand corner. Click it, and click "Create Class" from the menu that follows.
Clicking "Create Class" brings up a new window that asks you to supply details about your classroom (seen below). Provide your class name, the section number, and the subject. Click the blue "Create" button to save changes.
That's it! Your class is now created, and you are ready for your next steps.
Welcome to your Google Classroom! Let's add your students so we can get started using it as a tool for learning.
The first thing you'll notice as you look at your screen is that Classroom has three distinct sections marked by tabs: Stream, Classwork, People. To add students to your class, click on the People tab.
There are two ways to bring students into your Google Classroom:
For teachers with a small number of students in a class, you can invite each student individually.
For teachers with many students, use a code to allow your students to join your class on their own.
Make sure you've clicked on the People tab, then under the students section, click the Add person button.
From the resulting pop-up window, just start typing in your students' email addresses. The students will start to pop up in your view, and when you find the correct kiddo, just click their name to add them to the invite list. Repeat the process until all of your students are selected, and then click the INVITE button.
If you have a lot of students, they can join your class independently just by entering a code.
Click on the Settings gear at the top of your classroom header (that's what the big picture at the top of your classroom is called).
You can find your Class code in the General area. You'll get options to display it or change it.
The most important part, of course, is getting the kids in there.
Give students the code in whichever way you choose, and direct them to visit the Google Classroom website.
As soon as they login with their Google credentials, students should click on the plus sign in the upper-right hand corner. From the resulting menu, students should select Join Class, and enter the class code in the pop-up.
