At Boston Valley, we identify as a community of learners, understanding that we are all able to learn and grow. The Boston Valley Learning Community is made up of students and their families, all BVS staff members, bus drivers and bus aides who transport our students to and from school, and district staff who support BVS.
At Boston Valley, we are committed to self and others as we continue to build and maintain a learning community that ensures a sense of belonging by honoring individual differences, while also recognizing that we are stronger together. We will continue to be guided by our BVS Expectations:
I will be the best learner I can be.
I will make our learning community a great place for everyone to live and learn.
All members of our learning community use their words and actions at school and in connected spaces to create a safe and comfortable environment for everyone.
All members of our learning community are actively involved in the learning process as we each build on our strengths, while having the confidence and courage to develop our areas of growth.
Our eyes and minds are open to seeing and celebrating the things that make us unique, while also embracing our collective strength as a learning community.
We demonstrate an appreciation and desire for human interaction through meaningful experiences.
Students build critical life skills through free play.
We celebrate our successes as learners and good humans.
Continuous teaching of the BVS Expectations and look-fors at Community Connection Assemblies, principal-hosted grade level meetings, and within individual classrooms to build understanding of how it should look, sound, and feel to be part of our learning community.
Use of restorative practices to resolve conflicts and create plans for moving forward in a way that embraces our BVS Expectations.
Build a sense of belonging by being intentional about identifying and capitalizing on opportunities to teach about and celebrate things that make ourselves and those around us unique.
In addition to building wide SEL activities held one morning per week, we create opportunities for students to engage with one another to promote socializing and creating a sense of belonging for all.
We recognize that integrating general and special education students means that the door to our learning spaces opens both ways.
Every day, every student has the opportunity to engage in technology-free play as a means of building critical life skills.
Learning community members are watchful for accomplishments and actions that should be called out and celebrated and act on sharing that information.
Learning community members use their words and actions to demonstrate understanding of their role and responsibility in making our school a great place for everyone to live and learn.
Learning community members participate in repairing the harm and applying corrective actions to resolve conflicts and prevent repeating problematic/undesirable actions in the future.
Learning community members participate in learning experiences around significant historical events, days of celebration, days of commemoration, and other opportunities that allow us to honor and celebrate uniqueness.
Accomplishments and actions of our learning community members are recognized and celebrated through a variety of venues, such as the monthly BVS Bulldog Buzz Newsletter, Wow! Slides on Morning Announcements, BVS Community Connection Assemblies, and so on.
Learning community members engage in effective and appropriate social interactions that demonstrate an understanding of how their words and actions impact others.
Students continue to develop and practice critical life skills, such as problem solving, conflict resolution, and navigating precarious situations, through free play.
