Welcome! If you are interested in developing, innovating, or implementing engineering practices and skills into real-life application all while getting to play and create with cool electronic and mechanical parts, we strongly encourage you to join the Hoover High Robotics Team! Our goal is to inspire STEM students by providing them an outlet where they can let their innovative abilities and passions flourish. Under this organization, you will gain a stronger sense of career development in engineering and technology, but even if you do not necessarily choose to pursue these areas, we reassure the importance of the extensive values you will obtain from teamwork, communication, and a basis in understanding the importance of STEM in our society today. Overall, we hope you treasure the experience attained from the Robotics Team and use the knowledge gained in your future endeavors. Thank you for your interest, and we look forward to working with you! - Isaiah Lee, Hudson Keller, Sid Suresh
Practices held Monday from 3:30 - 5:00 in G112!!!

The Hoover Robotics Team will compete under the VEX Robotics EDR program. The VEX Robotics competition game for 2019-2020 is the Tower Takeover Challenge (watch this video), a game involving strategy and skillful operation of robots in order to transport cubes into towers and goals to score points while opposing advancement of the opposing team. Throughout the school year, we will compete at several tournaments around the state, and if we achieve certain requirements at these local tournaments, we will advance to compete in the Alabama State Championship in Auburn. In addition, we will participate in the TSA State Conference for VEX Robotics in April in order to advance to nationals at the TSA National Conference.
Practices will be held every (tenatively) Monday after school in Ms. Sinclair's room (G112 ). These meet-ups will be used for announcements, planning, building, testing, and practicing for competition. Members will be split into teams of six, and each team will be assigned a robotics kit. It is expected that we will have three competitive teams this year, but a fourth may be formed if funds allow. The majority of the first semester will be used to build the kits, and competition season will begin mid October.
This is our first year of competitive robotics, and unfortunately this year also requires the most commitment towards financing. In order to manage the high expense of equipment and materials, we will take part in spirit nights and fundraisers to pull funds to allocate in buying robotics kits. In addition, each member will pay a $100 entrance fee as part of their admittance into the team. However, if you are in a position or situation where meeting the entrance fee is difficult, please do not hesitate to send an email or speak with the leaders privately, and we will work together to sort out a solution. We do not want payment to be an obstacle that will prevent anyone from being a part of the team or hinder the potential they hold! - Isaiah Lee, Hudson Keller, Sid Suresh
VEX Robotics Competitions (State & Local)
We will be competing at local tournaments around the state for the VEX Robotics Tower Takeover Challenge. Based on our performance, we will be eligible to compete for the VEX Robotics Competition Alabama State Championship in March.
The TSA (Technology Student Association) hosts a national convention of STEM competitions each year for high school and middle school. These schools have excelled at the regional/state level for their respective competition and have qualified to compete at the national level. The TSA State Conference Tournament for VEX will be held in Birmingham, and the TSA National Convention 2020 hosts the national VEX Robotics competition at Nashville, Tennessee.
