Healing Centered Restorative Engagement (HCRE) is proud to announce the success of our partnership with Leaders Advancing and Helping Communities (LAHC) in the creation of a new 8-week, Civic Leadership Program (CLP).
HCRE played a pivotal role in designing and delivering the curriculum for the initial cohort of the CLP in summer 2025; a program dedicated to equipping young adults with the knowledge and skills needed to become active, engaged civic leaders.
The CLP is a key initiative for college students, young professionals, and aspiring public administrators that offers an accessible and enriching environment where participants explore the structure and function of government, civic entities, and public service. Through interactive, expert-led discussions, participants gained essential tools for navigating public systems, advocating for their communities, and strengthening their leadership capabilities.
A distinguishing strength of the CLP was its integration of diverse weekly guest speakers from various sectors, including government, law, education, philanthropy, and community advocacy. These speakers brought real-world insight and mentorship to each session, providing participants with invaluable perspectives.
Our experience in leading the design and delivery of the curriculum for the initial cohort of CLP participants has been thrilling. We had the privilege of watching them become excited and confident about their ability to understand how our government operates and to advocate on behalf of issues they are passionate about. The initial cohort expressed delight in demystifying the complexities of navigating our current political and social climate. A key output of their experience was the creation of individual civic action plans to guide them forward.
As noted by participant Janai Gilmore, “... thanks to the enriching and enlightening experience that I've had this summer participating in an 8-week Civic Leadership Course created by Tracy Hall, PhD, MPA in partnership with LAHC • Leaders Advancing & Helping Communities, I am embracing my role as a citizen in ways that I haven't before. Because I understand in a way that I hadn't before that good citizenship means embracing both my rights and responsibilities. And that, to me, means being both civically and politically active.”
