Combat
If you want to survive for very long in Minecraft, you need to learn how to fight monsters. From the small annoyance of zombies and spiders to the possible destruction of the creeper to the feeling you're being watched by an Enderman, you need to know what to do. This section introduces you to all the mobs you may encounter with a picture of it, stats on damage and health and a description of where it spawns, how it hurts you, and some good methods to kill it.
Zombie
HP:20
Damage: about 2-3 (1-1 1/2 hearts)
Drops: Rotten flesh, Rarely iron ingots, armor if wearing it
Description: A very common mob and probably one of the first you will meet, zombies are very dumb and slow but often spawn in groups and can spawn with armor or weapons. If you build a two block high pillar and stand on it, the zombies cannot attack you but you can attack them. They also burn up in sunlight but sometimes find shade under trees. These are not your biggest threat as they are mostly pests, but big groups and armored zombies can be substantial. Zombies drop 1-2 rotten flesh and about 1 in 40 zombies will drop an iron ingot. If they are wearing armor that they spawned with they may drop it but will always drop items they pick up. Yes, they can pick up items. Also, if they spawn with or pick up a helmet, the do not burn up in sunlight.
Fun fact: on hard mode, zombies can break down wooden and copper doors
Spider
HP:16
Damage: about 1-3 (1/2-1 1/2 hearts)
Drops: String, Spider eye
Description: The spider is another very common mob that is usually not much of a threat. Spiders are fast though, and they can climb up walls so they will very likely climb up onto the roof of your base and annoy you. Spiders are also 2 blocks wide and one block tall so they can fit through many gaps. Spiders do not burn up in daylight, but are neutral during the day and often despawn around noon.
Fun fact: if a spider has invisibility, you can still see its eyes
Creeper
HP:20
Damage: depends on how close you are but usually about 6 health (or three hearts)
Drops: gunpowder, and if it is killed by a skeletons arrow it can drop music disks
Description: Beware! The Creeper will explode if you get too close dealing large amounts of damage and creating a small crater. Creepers are much smarter than zombies and are very good at finding paths to you. They do not burn up in the sun and are always hostile so be very careful. They are silent until they get close to you and start flashing white, expanding, and hissing. If you hear/see this, RUN. These signs mean they are about to explode, but if you can get out of a 6 block radius of the creeper in time, it will not explode. It is recommended that you kill it with a bow.
Fun fact: Creepers were created when Notch accidentally switched the X and Y axis's of the pig
Skeleton
HP:20
Damage: about 1-2 (1/2-1 hearts)
Description: Skeletons spawn armed with bows and will shoot you, so be careful. Skeletons also strafe, which means to circle around your opponent to make it harder for them to hit you. You can block skeleton arrows with a shield to negate all damage and sometimes, if you are close enough and get a perfect angle, when the skeleton shoots you, the arrow will bounce off your shield and hit the skeleton! One good way to beat a skeleton is to find a cramped place with lots of corners to hide behind and hide behind corns, and when the skeleton comes around the corner, hit it with your sword.
Fun fact: skeletons have a 10% chance to spawn with a bow in their left hand
Enderman
HP: 40
Damage: 6-10x 3-5
This mob starts neutral, but will attack you if your crosshairs point at its eyes when it is within 64 blocks of you or if you attack it. It can teleport, has plenty of health, and can do lots of damage. So be careful around it and try to use its weaknesses against it, which are: it takes damage from water, and it is three blocks tall.
Fun fact: Endermen are found in all three dimensions

Guardians are powerful mobs that spawn in and around ocean monuments. they have a laser attack and will also damage you with its spikes. They are very dumb so if they cannot see you they forget about you.

hp: 80
attack: 2, but with range, 8
Description: An underwater hostile mob found in ocean monuments. It can make it very slow to mine and can damage you. There can be up to three in one ocean monument (but there might be two if one suffocates in a block)
