1st Place
The First Place winner will have the opportunity to choose between a Nintendo Switch, an iPad, and a Kodak digital camera. Their work will also be published in a scholarly journal, the George Washington Journal of Ethics in Publishing.
2nd and 3rd Place
The Second and Third Place winners will get a $50 gift card to an establishment of their choice, and their work will be published in the George Washington Journal of Ethics in Publishing.
Honorable Mentions
The Honorable Mentions, or 4th and 5th Place winners, will have their work will be published in the George Washington Journal of Ethics in Publishing.
poster board Contest Requirements:
Choose ONE of the following topics below, conduct research, and create a trifold board to display information about the topic at the Black Stripe Expo.
Banned Books - Choose a banned book and provide information about the author, publisher, reason for the ban, and why the book is valuable.
Black & Brown LGBTQ+ History - Choose an LGBTQ+ historical figure of color, research them, and share biographical information about their life, career, activism, and impact on society/place in history. Explain why their legacy should be taught in schools.
Black & Brown LGBTQ+ Role Models - Choose an LGBTQ+ role model of color (celebrity, musician, writer, influencer, artist, etc.) and research their life and career. Explain why they have a positive impact on society and should be viewed as a role model or their legacy taught in schools.
Formatting Requirements:
Presentation must be on a trifold board
Presentation must include an MLA WORKS CITED PAGE
To be considered for a prize, students must register for the competition via the Google Form below
Posters may use any variation of color, font, shapes, etc.
Eligibility:
Participants must be students in the Howard County Public School System
Participants must be in grades 7-12

Judging Criteria
Judging will be complete the day of the event. Guests will review each poster presentation and rate each of the criteria below out of 10 points:
(1) Research
Is it clear that the student conducted thorough research? Do they convey the information they gathered on their poster board effectively?
(2) Functionality
Is the information on the poster board readable? Is the design distracting from the content of the board?
(3) Relevance
Does the student's poster project thoroughly address their prompt of choice? Did they fulfill the requirements and address all parts of the research question?
(4) Aesthetics
Are the elements (color, shapes, layers, effects, etc.) of the trifold harmonious? Do they work together to convey an overall message or aesthetic? Is the poster board visually satisfying to the viewer?
(5) Social Value
In what way does this presentation have a positive impact on society or the viewer?
