Late Work
My late work policy is 50 points off per day an assignment is turned in late. Example: If an assignment is due on January 10th, but is turned in January 11th, the student would receive 50 points off of their score. If this assignment is turned in January 12th, they would receive a zero.
It is the student's responsibility to get work to me, as once they start their internship, I will not see them every day. Because of this, all work is to be turned in on Google Classroom.
Homework
I typically do not assign homework. I give enough time in class for the average student to complete any work assigned. However, if a student does not complete the work in the allotted class period, the work then becomes homework, and is due the following day.
Make Up Work
When we have class, students have the same amount of days missed to make up work. For example, if they miss Monday and Tuesday, being 2 days, they have until Thursday, 2 days later, to turn in all make up work. If a student misses a Friday and a Monday, that is still only 2 school days missed, thus, the make up work would be due on Wednesday. Students may find their missed work in the Make Up Work basket, which is clearly labelled in my room. It is the student's responsibility to get this work out of the basket on their own.
Once their internship begins, all assignments will be posted on Google Classroom, and students will be expected to view assignments daily, whether they are absent or not. There will be no period for make up work at this point, because students will have roughly a week to complete their assignments for the week.
Weekly Grade
During class: Students receive a grade each week based on their behavior and effort in class. If the student is always well behaved, focused, not sleeping, not on their phone, they will receive a 100 for the week. This is really great, and and easy grade booster, because that is potentially 18 easy 100's for the semester! However, if a student is disruptive, sleeping, or on their phone, I take 20 points off per time I must ask the student to correct their behavior. Their grade can easily drop to a zero if they do not correct their behavior.
During their internship: Students will receive a grade each week based on their attendance at their internship and the reports from their mentor teachers. Signing in late OR signing out early will result in 20 points being taken off of their grade for the week each time.
No Name Work
Work that is turned in without a name will be posted on a bulletin board in the classroom, marked with the date it was posted. Students have 10 days (including weekends) to claim their work or it will be taken down from the board and will be put in PowerSchool as a zero.
Extra Credit
Students may acquire up to 50 points of extra credit per 9 weeks. Extra credit will first be placed on to the lowest scores, that are not zeros. Throughout the semester, I will offer several extra credit options, but I will always take classroom supplies at any time for extra credit! As a frame of reference, I try to give roughly one point of extra credit per dollar spent.
If you would like to donate classroom supplies, the following items are always needed: (thank you!!!)
Tissues, hand sanitizer, Lysol wipes, sharpies, bottled glue, rulers, white out, index cards, highlighters, construction paper, flooring samples, back splash tile sheets, colored pencils, markers, scissors, etc.
