Understanding the TSIA2
The TSIA2 (Texas Success Initiative Assessment 2.0) is a college placement exam used to measure a student’s readiness for college-level courses in reading, writing, and math. Colleges and universities in Texas use it to determine if students need additional support classes before beginning credit-bearing courses.
Why It’s Beneficial in 9th Grade
Taking the TSIA2 early, in 9th grade, gives you a head start. If you meet the required scores now, you can:
Qualify for Dual Enrollment courses while still in high school.
Save time and money in college by skipping remedial (non-credit) classes.
Build confidence and prepare for your transition into college-level academics.
A Few Key Facts
It covers three main areas: Mathematics, English Language Arts & Reading (ELAR), and Essay writing.
Scores are good for 5 years. If you pass in 9th grade, you can use those scores to take dual enrollment in high school or to enroll in college after senior year.
If you don’t pass a section, you only need to retake that part, not the whole exam.
TSIA2 Registration Process & Testing Rules
Scan the TSIA2 RSVP QR Code with your school-issued device and fill it out completely. QR codes are posted throughout campus. You may also click this link to register: https://forms.gle/zRMyDLY5CQ56zMx36
Check your email for important updates about your test reservation and date. Sessions are capped at 15 students and fill up quickly. If there are too many students scheduled on the day you picked, you will be rescheduled and notified via email. A Parent Square reminder will also be sent 1-2 days before your scheduled TSIA2.
Arrive on the day of your TSIA2 on time. Students that are late to their session will not be allowed to enter the testing area. This is a College Board Accuplacer policy to avoid disruptions.
Items prohibited in the Testing Room (C-203): Calculators, cell-phones, smart watches, tablets, digital music players, audio/video recording devices, scratch paper, dictionaries, energy drinks, and coffee. Snacks will be provided.
Absolutely NO talking, sleeping, or disruptive behavior will be tolerated during the TSIA2. Any student that disrupts the testing environment will have their exam invalidated and will be asked to return to class.
9th Graders are allowed three opportunities to take the TSI at Dr. Cano Freshman Academy. If a student does not pass a particular section of the TSIA2 (or the entire exam), he/she must provide proof that they completed an online test-prep activity before scheduling a retest.
