Mr. Carlos Castañeda, Jr., M.Ed.
College & Career Readiness Advisor
Dr. Abraham P. Cano Freshman Academy, Harlingen CISD

At Dr. Abraham P. Cano Freshman Academy, I proudly serve as the College and Career Advisor, a role dedicated to guiding students as they begin preparing for life after high school. It is never too early to start building a plan for the future, and my mission is to ensure that each student has the tools, resources, and confidence they need to succeed.

As a College and Career Advisor, I assist students with a wide variety of opportunities, including college applications, scholarships, career exploration, TSI testing, dual enrollment, and the college search process. Whether a student dreams of attending college, joining the military, or stepping into the workforce, I am here to support their journey.

I hold a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism from The University of Texas-Pan American and a Master of Education in Student Development & Leadership in Higher Education from Angelo State University. My professional experience at The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley gave me valuable insight into college expectations, resources, and student success strategies—knowledge I now share with my students at CFA.

My approach is student-centered, compassionate, and rooted in hard work. I understand that 9th grade is not only a time of academic growth, but also a year of adjustment as students learn to navigate a new environment, balance responsibilities, and discover who they are becoming. I strive to support students not only academically but also personally, offering guidance and encouragement to help them find their voice and confidence as they start their high school journey.

#RAVENUP - It's going to be an amazing year!
