Positioning
when in possession –
- to support offense: move defensive line forward
- to support passing: spread out wider for better passing angles
esp. diagonals
might receive from midfielders passing back / wing backs
- to start offense: [usu. from the goal kick] refer to types of passes below
Types of Passes
Attacking passes:
- to midfielders
- close pass: short pass to teammate (teammate has space to move forward)
- switch pass: long pass to teammate on other side of field to change attacking direction
- to strikers - very difficult given that accuracy is needed not to lose possession
- through pass: uber long pass to strikers – soccer god difficulty
Possession passes:
- keep possession by passing to nearest available teammate
- e.g. wing backs / midfield
- AVOID PASS TO THE GOALIE EVEN IF YOU’RE DESPERATE. Safety First!
because a really fast striker can steal
because you might score an own goal
