The HCI String Orchestra, founded in 1980, is an ensemble of string players and music lovers that perform exquisite pieces of music. We present ourselves as one of the only twelve high schools in the country with an in-house string orchestra. At our core, we foster an environment where members forge lasting friendships, have fun with music together, and cultivate crucial skills of teamwork and discipline. Each rehearsal session aims to transcend the confines of theory and notation, immersing musicians in vivid soundscapes through the artistry of their playing.
Twice weekly, we convene for rigorous rehearsal sessions. They are complemented by fully subsidised external music lessons for cello, viola, and double bass players. With a comprehensive inventory of instruments (loaned to members for free), we aspire to be the epicentre of where music comes alive in Hwa Chong.
