"I am more than indebted to Hwa Chong for shaping me into the leader I am today. As the President of the Hwa Chong Students’ Council, I am privileged to serve alongside my fellow Councillors with commitment and passion, to unite the school and uphold the Hwa Chong spirit. My time in Council has taught me the weight of responsibility, the importance of leading with heart and the value of placing others above myself.
As part of the Science and Mathematics Talent Programme, I have been given plenty of opportunities to explore my interests. Notably, their Olympiad programmes and the SMTP research module have allowed me to hone my critical thinking skills and have broadened my understanding of science and mathematics concepts beyond the confines of the curriculum.
My experiences in Hwa Chong’s Service Learning programme have also allowed me to grow significantly as a leader. Through my time in Project Integrate, I have come to realise the importance of giving back to the community. This project has allowed me to listen to the stories of my migrant brothers and the arduous experiences they have endured, all of which have left a lasting impact on me.
But above all, what I cherish most is the loving community I have found here at Hwa Chong. In the toughest of times, I have been surrounded by a family of supportive teachers and friends who never hesitated to help however they could. I believe this reflects our school value of 己立立人,己达达人, where we surmount not at the expense of others, but through lifting each other up. For that, and for everything Hwa Chong has given me, I am eternally grateful and proud to call Hwa Chong my home."

"Some feelings are hard to put into words, the feeling of knowing instantly that you are exactly where you are meant to be. That was what Hwa Chong felt like to me the moment I joined this family. It is a place that does not simply teach you, but shapes you quietly, deeply, and in ways you do not fully appreciate until you look back and realise how far you have come.
Serving as Vice-President of the Hwa Chong Students' Council is an honour I do not take for granted. Beyond the responsibilities and the autonomy given, I am grateful for the opportunity to give back to the family that has given me so many beautiful memories. Above all, serving alongside such dedicated and passionate councillors, whom I am grateful to call my friends, has meant the world to me. What the Students' Council gave me went far beyond any title or responsibility. It brought out the best in me, nurturing a love for the people around me and affirming that the most meaningful things we do are always done in service of others.
I was also given the privilege of serving as General Secretary of Project Integrate dedicated to supporting foreign workers in Singapore. Interacting with the foreign workers and contributing to the wider community deepened my awareness of the society around me and to stay true to the value of 饮水思源, to never forget those who have quietly held up the world around us.
Ultimately, what makes Hwa Chong truly special is not just the wealth of experiences and opportunities it offers, but the people and the culture that hold it all together. Here, no one walks alone. The relationships forged and the bonds built through the shared challenges and life's many highs and lows are ones that last a lifetime. And it is that warmth, that quiet but unshakeable sense of belonging which makes Hwa Chong a second home in every sense of the word. I leave carrying far more than I ever expected and a gratitude so deep it is difficult to put into words. Whatever lies ahead, I carry with me the courage to serve, the heart to love, and the conviction to live by 己立立人,己达达人."

"When I first joined the Track and Field team, “锄强扶弱,保家卫国” was the philosophy that I was introduced to, and profoundly inspired me to chase excellence for the impact I could bring. To me, this is what the Hwa Chong spirit is about, to think about the difference we can make in our pursuits, and to serve a cause larger than ourselves.
Beyond the perspectives that Hwa Chong had shown me, I am incredibly grateful to have been provided the wealth of experiences that have made me who I am today. Now serving as the Vice-president of the Students’ Council, I can say for sure that Hwa Chong has moulded my confidence and capabilities far from when I was just an unfamiliar Secondary One boy. By being able to plan our own events and shape school culture, the student-led leadership opportunities here have helped me shape my character and also find friends that I will cherish for a lifetime.
One of my favourite memories in Hwa Chong has been the Humanities Research Symposium for Youth (HRSY) under the Humanities Programme, when I was introduced to friends from many countries and areas of intriguing humanities research. Being able to experience this overseas immersion alongside my friends inspired me to deepen my interest in the humanities, and also forged memories that I will keep close to heart for a while.
While also volunteering at a kid’s club to serve disadvantaged children alongside my friends, Hwa Chong encourages us to understand and give back to the world around us through its Service Learning curriculum. Through my time in Project Affinity, I have learned to appreciate and walk alongside the children that we work with, making me a more sensitive person in the process."

"Hwa Chong is essentially a vibrant buffet—a sprawling spread of diverse academic courses, leadership roles, and sporting opportunities where the only real challenge isn't finding an opportunity, but deciding which ones to seize first. My own journey as a student, councillor, and athlete has been nothing short of *rhapsodic, constantly pushing me to step far beyond the four walls of a conventional classroom and into a space of genuine, often uncomfortable, growth. I vividly remember how overwhelming it felt to balance these roles, yet it was within that complexity that I truly learned to navigate the world.
One of my most defining memories was an exchange program at Naval Base Secondary; it was a deeply eye-opening experience that allowed me to engage with peers from vastly different social backgrounds, shattering my assumptions and broadening my perspective on our society in ways I never expected. This is the hallmark of the Hwa Chong experience: it provides a platform for every student, regardless of their starting point, to challenge their worldview and build lasting connections.
Through these highs and lows, the school has grounded me in the core pillars of 自强不息 (the tireless drive for self-improvement) and 饮水思源 (a deep gratitude for the sources of our success). More than just a "second home," Hwa Chong is a transformative environment that prepares you to meet the world with both competence and character. If you are looking for a once-in-a-lifetime journey that is genuinely worth the effort, I encourage you to visit our open house and experience this unique spirit for yourself."

"Hwa Chong offers a rich tapestry of opportunities, where every student can find a place to belong. Beyond its strong academic foundation, I am deeply grateful for how my journey here has shaped my character over the years. As a secondary 1 student who was unfamiliar with the school environment, I was hesitant to step out of my comfort zone. I gradually found my voice through the leadership opportunities I was entrusted with, such as in the Students’ Council. Serving as the Vice-Chairman of Ortus Council has further honed my leadership abilities. Through this role, I have strengthened not only my leadership aptitude, but also my communication, coordination, and collaboration skills, refining my competencies in working effectively with others.
As a participant in the Bicultural Studies Programme (BSP), I have developed a deeper appreciation for both Chinese and Western cultures, gaining a more nuanced and global perspective. I have recently attended the Vietnam immersion trip, where I learnt more about Vietnamese culture and managed to show appreciation for foreign cultures. Such opportunities have been particularly meaningful, offering invaluable exposure to perspectives and experiences beyond Singapore.
My CCA has also played a significant role in shaping who I am today. As a member of the Chinese Orchestra, I have cultivated a deeper appreciation for traditional Chinese music and culture. During CCA exchanges with Nan Yang Girls’ High, we exchanged our takeaways with other students, allowing us to learn from each other and forge lasting friendships. More importantly, the challenges I faced along the way have taught me resilience and perseverance, enabling me to emerge stronger with each setback.
As I continue on this journey, I would like to encourage all to never underestimate oneself and try out things one has never done before. It is only through these opportunities will we be able to grow and develop into better individuals we would never have imagined."

"Exploration, challenge, and self-discovery: these words sum up my Hwa Chong experience as a whole. It has given me countless unforgettable experiences and some of my most cherished friendships, while also providing excellent opportunities to pursue my long-term academic interests and develop my holistic skills.
As a student in the Science and Mathematics Talent Programme (SMTP), I am able to engage in interesting STEM modules and explore concepts beyond the standard curriculum. The research opportunities and exposure to advanced topics have fueled my curiosity in Mathematics and the Sciences.
In addition, I am a member of the Hwa Chong Library Council, my CCA, where we help foster a culture of reading in the school. By planning various initiatives, as well as taking on hands-on responsibilities like maintaining the library space, I have learnt to work effectively with others. Moreover, as a student councillor, I have strengthened my servant leadership skills, enhanced my teamwork abilities, and deepened my commitment to serving the school and student community. These experiences have shaped me into a better version of myself, and I owe much of my growth to the people and opportunities I found at Hwa Chong."

"Although my journey at Hwa Chong as a Secondary Two student has just begun, it has already been incredibly fulfilling, offering a perfect balance between intellectual pursuit and character development. Hwa Chong provides me with countless opportunities and platforms which allows me to grow holistically.
Through the Science Olympiad and Chinese Literature programmes, my passion for Chinese and science is no longer confined to textbooks. Guided by dedicated teachers and alongside like-minded peers, I am constantly given platforms to explore fascinating topics and stretch my academic potential while learning more about Chinese culture.
Beyond academics, serving in the Values In Action (VIA) Council has profoundly shaped my character and perspectives. During the annual Founder's Day Food Drive, my fellow councillors and I worked closely together to transport and distribute food donations to various CDAC centres. I was also part of the Organising Team of thewas also part of the Organising Team of the Community Action Convention, which aims to help different communities like youths and those vulnerable in the society. Experiencing this teamwork with my fellow councillors and connecting with the community firsthand taught me invaluable lessons in compassion and empathy.
I am truly grateful for the holistic opportunities Hwa Chong provides. As I progress, I hope to embody our school motto of 自强不息 by constantly improving myself, where I would continue to strive for progress in both my school academics and council and aim to help more and more people in my community. Meanwhile, I will always continue practicing 饮水思源, where I would never forget the impactful guidance and unwavering support from the teachers and peers in my school life who makes me so grateful for them and have made my unique Hwa Chong journey so special."
— Chen Mofan (2O1)
"My first few months as a Sec 1 student in Hwa Chong have been wonderful and filled with various activities, ranging from the exciting Secondary One Adventure Camp to inspiring VIA projects. Beyond the fun, I really appreciate all the guidance and support received from my seniors and teachers. I also got to know my classmates better and formed blossoming friendships along the way.
As a Bilingualism DSA student, I enrolled in the Chinese Literature Programme which deepened my understanding of Chinese culture, language and history that Hwa Chong has always emphasised. Our teacher would also show us insightful documentaries which also deepens my understanding on what we are learning. My CCA, 华岗 (Chinese Drama) taught me more about discipline, teamwork and deepened my appreciation for the dramatic arts. It also strengthened my Chinese language skills and boosted my confidence in public speaking and performing.
Overall, Hwa Chong is truly a big family, packed with unique activities and endless opportunities, including allowing all of us to sign up for activities and leadership opportunities that we wished to go for. As Hwa Chongians, we would experience leadership challenges and forge strong bonds with like-minded peers while pursuing interests and passions. I will continue my journey of learning and growth in Hwa Chong with the spirit of “自强不息” and the support from my peers and teachers."

"My experience in Hwa Chong Institution since Secondary One has been enriching and transformative. As part of the school’s Chinese Orchestra CCA, I was able to deepen my appreciation for music, while also developing discipline, teamwork and perseverance through regular practices and performances.
As a Secondary One student last year, I served as a Councillor-in-Training, where I supported various school events such as Track and Field Finals. During the event, I was tasked with encouraging my fellow classmates to stand up and cheer for our athletes as they competed for our school. What had particularly inspired me during this event was how well-planned it was by the Organising Team, and especially how engaged everyone was in cheering on our athletes. This demonstrated to me Hwa Chong’s strong school spirit and support for our athletes.
Through these experiences, I developed a deeper appreciation for service and leadership, and was selected to be a member of the ProEd Council towards the end of Secondary One. Since then, during events such as Secondary One Orientation and the Secondary Outdoor Adventure Camp held earlier this year, I had the opportunity to interact with the new Secondary One batch, guiding them through activities and events and making them feel at home. Through these experiences, I had further strengthened my confidence and commitment to serving the school community and supporting my juniors, making them feel like they fit in within the Hwa Chong community.
All in all, Hwa Chong’s vibrant and supportive environment has been an important part of my growth, with dedicated teachers and friends constantly encouraging me to strive for excellence. Through various activities and events, I have also learnt the importance of adaptability, collaboration, and deepened my understanding of the school value of “自强不息”."
