Service-Learning is integral to Hwa Chong culture and our core value of 饮水思源 (remembering our roots and honouring our benefactors). Hwa Chongians serve and care for the community by initiating Service-Learning projects and collaborating with beneficiaries through sustainable partnerships.
Our annual Service-Learning Summit is also a key platform that gathers students, both from Hwa Chong and other schools, to learn the best practices from impactful Service-Learning projects, as well as to learn about community needs through invited community partners.
Project Integrate XI
“Project Integrate XI is Hwa Chong’s longest-running Service Learning (SL) project seeking to work for all migrant workers in Singaporean society. Over 13 years of service, we have managed to impact over 17000 migrant workers and more than 1000 youths locally. In line with our impact and outreach, we have 2 main goals. First, to address the larger spectrum of issues that migrant workers in Singapore inevitably face. Second, it is to raise awareness among Singaporeans, particularly the youth, and prompt them to take action for the greater good. With over 25 partners and institutions involved in this year's iteration, we hope to expand our outreach and truly appreciate the unheralded heroes of the nation!”

Project Unwind is a Service Learning initiative that works with primary schools across Singapore to promote health awareness in children through engaging activities, while giving them a much-needed space to unwind from the many demands of school life. Now in its sixth iteration, Project Unwind runs weekly sessions across multiple primary schools, reaching over 60 students through programmes tailored to each group's needs. For the younger students, sessions centre around simple, high-energy games that make healthy living fun and easy to understand. Upper primary students enjoy a mix of team sports and structured lesson packages, complemented by termly booklets that reinforce healthy habits beyond schooling hours. For those who require more targeted support, the team takes on a health coaching role, working with them individually to set personalised health goals and build sustainable habits over time. Guided by this year’s vision: “Fuel Right, Move Bright, Shine with Might”, Project Unwind hopes to empower the next generation of children to take charge of their own health and wellbeing.
Project Alleviate 6.0 is a Service Learning project started in 2021 committed to improving mental well-being and raising awareness about the realities of mental health among youths in Singapore. As the sixth iteration of this project, Project Alleviate has expanded its outreach touching base with all parts of mental well-being - acknowledging and encompassing the links between mental well-being and physical and societal factors. In a society where conversations surrounding mental health are often stigmatised or overlooked, many young people continue to struggle silently with pressure, expectations, and the uncertainty that comes with growing up. Through our outreach and advocacy efforts, we hope to create a more understanding and supportive environment where youths feel safe to express themselves and seek help when needed.
At the heart of Project Alleviate are two key goals. First, to provide meaningful support for youths navigating mental health struggles by creating safe spaces for conversation, connection, and encouragement. Second, to raise greater awareness among the community, especially fellow youths, and inspire more people to take active steps towards supporting mental well-being and breaking the stigma surrounding mental health.
Project Alleviate believes that improving mental well-being is not just about addressing struggles, it is also about helping youths feel seen, valued, and supported. In a world where many suffer in silence, even the smallest act of empathy or connection can make an immeasurable difference.
