Concurrent Enrollment HCC ASN and WSU BSN: HCC and Westfield State University (WSU) offer a concurrent ASN and BSN enrollment option. For WSU program consideration, the applicant must select this option in the application process and meet all of the HCC admissions policies and both HCC and WSU progression policies while in the ASN/BSN pathway.

All Nursing Program(s) applicants must demonstrate completion of all required general education courses with a minimum grade of C+ (77%) prior to their September 1 enrollment into their selected nursing programs.

Face to face remote or in person attendance is mandatory for all applicants (PN, ASN, Educational Mobility 1+1 and Advanced Placement LPN2RN ASN).

Students who are interested in applying for one or more of the nursing programs at HCC need to complete a separate application for all programs through admissions. This includes the PN, ASN, Educational Mobility 1+1, Advanced Placement LPN2RN ASN Pathways and the Concurrent Enrollment HCC ASN and WSU BSN Pathway.
You will also need to request official transcripts to be sent to HCC from all of your other institutions.
"The Nursing Programs Requirements Acknowledgement Form" asks all applicants to acknowledge that they are aware of all of the nursing programs policies and requirements.
"Essential Functional Abilities Requirements" specifies the fit-for-duty functional abilities that all nursing students must have verified by a healthcare provider and maintain while in the nursing program.
"Employment Verification Form" asks applicants to share any healthcare experience that they have. Healthcare experience is not required for traditional PN and ASN applicants, but is required for the 1+1 and LPN2RN ASN pathways; however, this is good information to disclose for the application process.
All accepted (PN & ASN) HCC nursing students will have to complete a nurse aid training course. Please use the Employment Verification Form to identify your health career employment to include CNA or PCT experience, all employment will be verified.
The CNA/PCT Requirement Petition form is a document that accepted nursing students may use in support of a request for a review of their current healthcare position to replace the requirement of completion of a Nurse’s Aid training course, current CNA, or PCT. The form must be submitted by May 30th in the year of acceptance into a nursing program.
Six-months of LPN Healthcare experience is required for the Educational Mobility 1+1 ASN and Advanced Placement LPN2RN ASN applicants. Please use the Employment Verification Form to identify your LPN experience, all employment will be verified.
Nursing Students have additional requirements once accepted. Please review the Health Requirements 101 and Drug Testing requirements. Start working on the immunization requirements to-do list as soon as you apply to the HCC Nursing programs.
Essential Functional Abilities for Nursing Practice
All students interested in applying to the HCC nursing programs must take the NLN Nursing Entrance Exam called the NEX Exam. This is a standardized electronic exam used in conjunction with other criteria to determine acceptance to the HCC nursing programs. The NEX exam comprises of three main areas: English Verbal, Math and Science, each section is timed for 60 minutes. To be eligible to apply to the HCC Nursing Programs, it is required that you earn a minimum score of 50% on the Verbal section and a minimum score of 100 as a Composite Score. Requirements:
ALL PN, ASN, and LPN2RN first time applicants are required to complete the NLN NEX Exam. It is required to take All three (3) sections Verbal, Math and Science with a minimum score of 50% in Verbal and a minimum score of 100 as a Composite Score
1+1 students do not need to repeat the NEX exam
It is highly recommended that you prepare ahead and earn the highest score in all areas of testing, (Verbal, Math & Science) for a higher composite score. Points are applied during the application review. NEX exam electronic prep materials may be purchased through NLN for a fee, or you may elect to purchase a NEX exam prep book or you may use the HCC Library NEX review resources available in the reserved section
Scores are valid for two application cycles (2-years). Exemptions to this rule will be granted only to students applying for readmissions
Interested students must register for an NLN account, register and self pay for the NEX exam.
Applicants may take the exam twice within an application cycle
