Grounding Techniques

Sometimes after we experience an intense surge of emotion such as anger or sadness we can lose our focus. We can help ourselves to come back from that emotional surge by learning some grounding techniques.

The Grounding Techniques worksheet attached below describes four skills used for controlling intense emotional experiences and regaining mental focus. Grounding techniques work by focusing attention on the present moment, and bringing attention back to reality.
