Where does Google Classroom (GC) fit in my toolbox?
Where does Google Classroom (GC) fit in my toolbox?
NOTE: "Google doc" is a generic term for any kind of Google-related document (docs, slides, sheets)
What is does NOT do...
What is does NOT do...
- It does NOT replace School Loop
- But, School Loop has some integration (creating assignments in both places)
- It does NOT automatically push grades to School Loop; however, it does have the ability to download CSV file making importing grades into School Loop an easy 2-step process.
What it DOES do...
What it DOES do...
- Creates/organizes folders and files for the teacher and the student
- Auto-shares everything created by the students
- LOCKS the google doc/slide when student TURNS IT IN
- Automatically creates a copy of documents/templates you assign to students
- Provides an easy way to implement "Blog" posts and/or Questions.
- Integrates video and audio response answers to any assignment
Things to consider
Things to consider
You will need to be explicit with your lesson plans and coach your students accordingly.
- What environment is your assignment going to be based on?
- "Assignment A" is web-based (Alex, Holt-McDougal, etc)
- "Assignment B" is google-classroom-based
- Research, use website, read book, watch a video - end result will be in a Google Doc
- "Assignment C" is paper-based
- Research, use website, read book, watch a video - end result will be on paper
- Will all google document assignments be turned in to GC? Or just some of them?
- Will you grade in GC, then export/upload to School Loop? Students are conditioned to look for grades in School Loop; it may be best to stay consistent with this. It allows for download of grades in csv file that can be imported or dropped into School Loop assignments for easy grading.
