We encourage all students to take a rigorous schedule of classes in order to be best prepared for college. However, it is important to have a “balance” of academic courses that are also college preparatory. Advanced courses take considerable time outside the classroom; thus, students who are involved in extracurricular activities that require numerous hours outside of the school day should give careful consideration to the number of advanced courses for which they enroll in.
Please note that some advanced courses may assign summer work. Please look at each course's course reading requirements before signing up for the class, as It is the responsibility of the student to know if his/her selected course requires any summer work AND complete the required work by the first day of classes. All advanced course and summer work can be found in our district's website.
We currently offer the following advanced courses:
6th & 7th Grade Advanced Math & 8th Grade Algebra 1
6th, 7th and 8th Grade Science
7th Grade Texas History & 8th Grade US History
6th, 7th and 8th grade English Language Arts
IMPORTANT REMINDERS FOR HS CREDIT COURSES (Engineering, Principles of Ag., Theater, Art, Spanish, Algebra, Comp Sci, Health/Speech):
-90% attendance is REQUIRED! Even if they pass the class with a 100, or pass the EOC, if they don’t meet the seat time, they don’t get the HS credit.
-Students should not try to add or drop the course after the first 10 days. It will cause trouble on their high school transcript.
-They cannot drop the class just because they’re failing it, or because they have too many absences. Choosing that class means making a personal commitment.
-The grade they make WILL go on their high school transcript.
