Affiliated Organizations

SEES has four different affiliated professional organizations that provide career development, networking, scholarship, and design competition opportunities to both graduate and undergraduate students. The affiliated professional organizations are: the Water Environment Federation (WEF), American Academy for Environmental Engineers and Scientists (AAEES), Association of Environmental Engineering and Science Professors (AEESP), and Advancing Earth and Space Science (AGU).

Water Environment Federation

The Water Environment Federation (WEF) is a not-for-profit technical and educational organization of 30,000 individual members and 75 affiliated Member Associations representing water quality professionals around the world. Since 1928, WEF and its members have protected public health and the environment. As a global water sector leader, our mission is to connect water professionals; enrich the expertise of water professionals; increase the awareness of the impact and value of water; and provide a platform for water sector innovation.

American Academy of Environmental Engineers and Scientists

Some of the programs represented in AEESP include: water and wastewater treatment, air pollution control, water and air resource management, industrial and hazardous waste management, solid waste management, contaminated site investigation and remediation, waste repositories, pollution prevention, environmental chemistry, aquatic ecology, environmental toxicology, public health engineering, and environmental policy management.

Advancing Earth and Space Science

AGU supports 130,000 enthusiasts to experts worldwide in Earth and space sciences. Through broad and inclusive partnerships, AGU aims to advance discovery and solution science that accelerate knowledge and create solutions that are ethical, unbiased and respectful of communities and their values. Our programs include serving as a scholarly publisher, convening virtual and in-person events and providing career support. We live our values in everything we do, such as our net zero energy renovated building in Washington, D.C. and our Ethics and Equity Center, which fosters a diverse and inclusive geoscience community to ensure responsible conduct. AGU was established in 1919 by the National Research Council and operated as an unincorporated affiliate of the National Academy of Sciences for more than 50 years. We were independently incorporated in 1972.
