We had another fun and energetic class this week!
We started with the “Konnichiwa Song.” The children are getting much better at remembering the lyrics, and during the part with “genki, bakuzun, kibun wa saikō, tsukareta, onaka suita, genki janai yo,” they happily sang along by imitating the sounds they heard. Little by little, we hope they will be able to use these as real greetings in everyday situations.
Next, we practiced self-introductions:
“Boku (watashi) no namae wa 〜 desu. Yoroshiku onegaishimasu.”
Everyone worked hard on this and did a great job! We will keep practicing this every week.
After that, we tried a fun activity called “Finding the letters in our names.” The children helped each other recognize the characters in their names. They practiced writing their names by looking at a model and then used the letters to create tangram puzzles. Those who finished early played a Japanese action word matching game.
In our learning time, we first reviewed the sea creatures we had studied before, and then started learning the names of animals. Everyone knew inu (dog) and neko (cat) right away. We also learned uma (horse), hitsuji (sheep), ushi (cow), nezumi (mouse), and usagi (rabbit). For “usagi,” the children practiced drawing a rabbit and recognizing the characters u–sa–gi.
We then watched the well-known story “The Tortoise and the Hare (Usagi to Kame).” After that, we made a special craft — a magic trick with two sheets of paper! When you flip the paper, the picture changes. On one side the children drew a rabbit, and on the other side, a tortoise.
At the end of class, some children had extra time to practice writing “う・さ・ぎ.” Several of them are now beginning to recognize individual hiragana characters, which shows wonderful progress! ✨

今週も元気いっぱいに活動しました！
まずは「こんにちはの歌」。だいぶ覚えてきて、途中の 元気・抜群・気分は最高・疲れた・お腹すいた・元気じゃないよ の部分も、音を真似しながら楽しそうに歌っていました。これから少しずつ、実際のあいさつの一つとして使えるようになるといいなと思います。
続いて、自己紹介の練習です。 「僕の（私の）名前は〜です。よろしくお願いします。」 みんながんばって練習できまた。これからも続けていきます。
そのあとは「自分の名前に入っている文字探し」に挑戦。お友達同士で助け合いながら、名前の文字を認識する練習をしました。お手本を見ながら自分の名前を書き、その文字を使ってタングラムパズルも作りました。早く終わったお友達は、日本語の「動き言葉」マッチングゲームで遊びました。
学習では、これまで習った海の生き物の名前を復習したあと、今週から新しく動物の名前を学び始めました。犬・猫はすぐに分かりましたが、うま、羊、牛、ネズミ、うさぎなどにも挑戦。特に「うさぎ」は絵を描きながら「う・さ・ぎ」の文字を確認しました。
さらに「うさぎとかめ」のビデオを観てから、工作にも取り組みました。２枚の紙を使って作るマジックトリック！面を変えると絵も変わる不思議な仕掛けの紙を作り、片面にはうさぎ、もう片面にはかめを描きました。 最後に時間のあったお友達は「う・さ・ぎ」と文字を書いてみました。
ひらがな１文字ずつを少しずつ認識できるようになってきたお友達も増えてきて、成長を感じられます✨

This week, since a yoga class was taking place in the next room, we conducted our activities using quieter voices than usual. As a result, the children were very focused and calm, though the atmosphere became a little serious. Next time, we hope everyone can participate with energy and enjoy themselves to the fullest.
First, we tried an activity called “Finding the letters in our names.” The children helped each other recognize the characters in their names and practiced writing them while checking the correct stroke order. They then used the letters to create puzzles on large sheets of paper. Once finished, they exchanged puzzles with friends and tried solving them. Many children enjoyed the challenge, saying, “It’s hard even though I made it myself!”
In our learning time, we reviewed the names of sea creatures we have learned so far. Most of the children remembered them well, though fugu and hito were still a little difficult. They could recall tako (octopus), kame (turtle), iruka (dolphin), kani (crab), and kujira (whale) accurately.
After that, we watched a video of the famous Japanese traditional story “Urashima Taro,” which features a turtle. Although the story was told in Japanese, the children watched it with full concentration. After the video, they did a craft activity, making origami turtles whose heads can pop out and go back in.
At home, you can enjoy practicing sea creatures’ names, letters in their names, and origami activities together with your child.
今週は隣の部屋でヨガクラスが行われていたため、いつもより静かな声で活動を行いました。そのせいか、みんなとても集中して落ち着いて取り組むことができましたが、少し真面目な雰囲気になってしまいました。次回は、みんなが楽しく元気に思い切り活動に参加できるといいですね。
まずは「自分の名前に入っている文字探し」に挑戦しました。お友達同士で助け合いながら名前の文字を認識し、書き順を確認しながら自分の名前を書きました。その文字を大きな紙に色を塗ってパズルも作り、出来上がったパズルはお友達と交換して挑戦しました。「自分で作ったのに難しい！」と楽しみながら取り組む姿も見られました。
学習では、これまでに覚えた海の生き物の名前を復習しました。だいぶ覚えてきましたが、ふぐやひとではまだ少し難しいようです。たこ、かめ、イルカ、かに、くじらはよく覚えていました。
その後、日本の伝統的な昔話で、亀が登場する有名なお話「浦島太郎」のビデオを観ました。日本語で語られていましたが、みんな集中して観ることができました。ビデオを見終わった後は、折り紙で首が出たり引っ込んだりするかめを作る工作にも挑戦しました。
