This lesson is also based on an actual course offered through the ELI program which the goal of the course is to provide instruction to help students with academic English in writing and integration into the UH-Mānoa academic community, in order to facilitate their academic studies.
The purpose of this course is to develop the foundation of French by gaining proficiency and confidence in vocabulary, grammar (present and past tense), and examining cultures of Francophone countries. Students should be able to seamlessly produce sentences (speaking and writing) in the present tense about common everyday topics and non-complex sentences in the past tense. Students should also be able to read beginner level books such as children’s books. Each week students will be presented with 15 new vocabulary words, two new verbs that they will learn to conjugate and utilize as well as one focus aspect of the language.
This is an introductory course which teaches new teachers about different teaching methods and getting to create and present to the class mock lessons.
In this lesson, I use the Audio-Lingual Method & Communication-Language-Teaching.
In this lesson plan, my group aims to increase students’ awareness of English varieties and encourage active reflection on current language ideologies to the students in the HELP Program. This lesson is also based on the Global Englishes Language Teaching (GELT) which celebrates all kinds of English, not just the inner circle Englishes (such as from England, the US, Australia, etc).
