Position Title: Community and Food Insecurity Graduate Research Assistant
Minimum Requirement: A Bachelor of Science in Nutrition, Public Health, Family and Consumer Sciences or closely related field. Admitted to a graduate degree program and registered as a full-time graduate student in a degree program related to Nutrition, Public Health, Family and Consumer Sciences, or other closely related degree at the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa. Student should be proficient in Microsoft Office and the Google Suite Package and comfortable using technology. Student should possess a valid driver’s license and be able to travel across the island of Oahu.
Desirable Qualifications: Received in community nutrition and research methods courses. Demonstrate excellent oral and written communication skills, be a self-starter, be prepared to learn and follow protocols, and be attentive to details.
Duties: Under the supervision of faculty, the Graduate Research Assistant will support the planning, implementation, and evaluation of activities for the Navigating Hypertension and Food Insecurity: A Produce Prescription Program to Improve Health Outcomes for Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander Communities. Responsibilities include assisting with project planning, participant recruitment, project implementation, and both quantitative and qualitative data collection. Tasks involve designing recruitment and other project materials (e.g., flyers, presentations, how-to guides), setting up, testing, and administering surveys and other data collection tools, and supporting data entry, organization, and secure data management. The Graduate Research Assistant will also contribute to data analysis, including coding qualitative data and preparing descriptive statistics.
The Graduate Research Assistant will also contribute to curriculum and training development for Community Health Workers. This includes assisting with preparing training materials, presentation slides, and handouts, as well as the delivery of training sessions. Additional responsibilities include contributing to report writing and professional presentations, maintaining project documentation, and attending team meetings. Other duties will be assigned as needed. 11- month position: 50% FTE (20 hours/week)
Salary: Step 14: $28,026 annually and tuition waiver.
Time Period: December 16, 2025- December 31, 2026 (with semester and annual review). Subsequent funding possible depending on performance and availability of funds.
