Hiroko Saito is a PhD candidate in American Studies at the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa. Hiroko's research interests are US-Japan relationship and transpacific cultural history. The dissertation is about the Japanese female Anglophone writers in the 1920s and 1930s, exploring their impact on the US-Japan relationship before and after the World War II.
Hiroko also actively engages with Okinawan cultural studies and published some articles about Okinawa's historical and contemporary issues. The article published in Okinawa Times highlights the history of the East-West Center and its relation to Okinawa's postwar development. Hiroko also published an article on Gendai Bijinesu which discussed the representation of Okinawa in the music video of "Sayōnara Mata Itsuka" by Yonetsu Genshi.
