Season 2 – 2021-2022 JABSOM ℅ 2025

Andie Conching

Hi! My name’s Andie and I’m a first-year student at JABSOM. I was born and raised in Manoa and graduated from Kamehameha Schools in 2014. After that, I went out to the east coast to Dartmouth College where I earned my B.A. in Neuroscience in 2018. In my gap years, I did research at the NIH studying mouse models of disease and development before moving home to work at a biotech start up managing an NSF grant. While my background is heavily research-based, I am so excited to be here in medical school. It's time to move from mice to humans, and I am so grateful to have the opportunity to do so in the community that inspired me to pursue medicine. When I’m not studying, I like to travel, bake, run, surf and hike (and listen to podcasts, of course). In the past few months, I have met so many amazing people here at JABSOM, and I can't wait to share their stories with you!

Jonathan Loi

Hey everyone, my name’s Jonathan and I am a first-year student at JABSOM. I’m born and raised here on Oahu and graduated from Kalani High School in 2016. I then went to UH Manoa where I got a B.S. in Biochemistry and B.A. in Microbiology in 2020. During my gap year, I worked as an emergency department scribe at Adventist Health Castle and Wahiawa General Hospital and got to learn so much before medical school from the physicians, nurses, and techs. When I’m not busy studying, I like to watch Kdramas, go to the gym, and karaoke with friends. Making a podcast is definitely something new for me but I can’t wait to see how this goes and share some stories with you all.

Kameron Ho Ching

Howzit! My name is Kameron and I was born and raised on the North Shore of Oahu. I’m of Samoan, Chinese, and Caucasian descent and am the first in my immediate family to go to medical school. I graduated from Iolani School in 2014 and attended Brigham Young University-Provo where I received my Bachelor’s degree in Physiology and Developmental Biology in 2020. I love playing basketball, golf, hiking, and cruisin’ with the fam at the beach. In order to prepare for medical school, I just did things that I was really passionate about: I went on humanitarian and service trips to Thailand, Myanmar, and Samoa, danced in a Polynesian performance group, played lots of intramural sports, and worked as a Burmese interpreter. I feel extremely blessed to be in school and am excited to see what the future holds!

Carly Coleman

Hi! My name is Carly Coleman and I'm a first-year medical student. I was born here on Oahu and graduated from Kamehameha High School in 2014 with Andie, who is another host this year and actually my best friend since kindergarten! I went to the University of San Diego before coming back to Hawaii and graduating from UH Manoa with a B.S. in Biology. I took a gap year to improve my MCAT score and resume before applying again. During that time I ended up joining a research project at the UH cancer center, started a special needs swim program, and was part of the Native Hawaiian Student Pathway to Medicine program. I really like baking, traveling (pre-COVID), and swimming! Now I'm here at JABSOM and excited to help future medical students with their journey.

Jason Seto

Hey everyone! I’m Jason and I’m a first-year medical student at JABSOM. I grew up in Hawaii Kai and went to Iolani School. After high school, I went all the way out to Amherst College in Massachusetts where I graduated in 2019. I then returned home and worked as an EKG technician at Queens Medical Center for a few months. I was fortunate enough to be selected for the Fulbright English Teaching Assistant Fellowship in Malaysia which I began in January of 2020; however, I was forced to return home in March due to COVID. In my free time, I enjoy hiking and playing guitar. I also love listening to podcasts and I’m excited to see what it’s like to be on the other side of the microphone. I’m looking forward to exploring the journeys of my classmates and sharing them with you all!

Mahalo to Jennifer Yokoyama, JABSOM MS2, for creating our beautiful JABSOM Journeys Logo!

"The canoe traveling towards the North Star is symbolic of the journey medical students embark on in pursuit of becoming physicians. This journey has its ups and downs, but throughout medical school we will learn from our experiences to become healthcare providers who support our community."

Mahalo to Kai Uyehara, Hawaii Musician, for singing & producing our JABSOM Journeys Jingle!
