The ENSO Winter School 2025 welcomes you to Honolulu!
Demonstrate understanding of ENSO fundamental dynamics, the key atmospheric and oceanic processes driving ENSO and their interactions via a hierarchy of models, from conceptual ENSO models to comprehensive earth system models.
Understand ENSO response to external forcing (past and future) and the uncertainties surrounding it
Familiarize with theories of ENSO and identify strengths and weaknesses
Explain the main strengths and limitations of coupled climate models in simulating ENSO, design idealized climate model experiments to study ENSO
Engage with the community of ENSO research, understand and critically evaluate existing and new directions in ENSO research
Reflect on the ethical implications of ENSO-related decisions and policies, especially in vulnerable regions, and recognize the cultural perspectives and local knowledge related to ENSO impacts and adaptation strategies.
Synthesize and apply ENSO knowledge to address real-world ENSO-related challenges (prediction, mitigation of impacts etc)
Analyze and evaluate ENSO teleconnections and impacts
