Late March 2026 — Speaker Series Launch
The Hulihia initiative begins with the first talk in our Spring Speaker Series, introducing the realities of Hawaiʻi’s housing landscape. Students, faculty, and community members are invited to explore the structural, economic, and social forces shaping housing across the islands. This conversation sets the stage for the work ahead.
April 2026 — Place Based Perspectives
The second speaker event continues the conversation, bringing additional voices into the dialogue—from policy experts, researchers, and practitioners working directly on housing issues in Hawaiʻi. Together, these talks provide the context, data, and lived experience that will inform our next phase.
May 12, 2026 — Hulihia Summit on Affordable Housing
The Hulihia Summit brings together faculty and invited experts to deepen understanding and begin designing interdisciplinary curriculum around the shared challenge of housing in Hawaiʻi.
The summit will help frame:
Key housing realities and policy contexts
Opportunities for creative and interdisciplinary engagement
Collaborative curriculum projects for the upcoming academic year
Fall 2026 — Classroom Integration
Following the summit, participating courses will integrate the Hulihia challenge into their curriculum. Students will develop research-driven, creative responses through design, storytelling, media, and interdisciplinary collaboration.
Future — Community Engagement & Student Work
Student projects emerging from Hulihia may be shared through exhibitions, presentations, and community partnerships, continuing the conversation and expanding the impact of this work.
