Placement exams are required for math and chemistry unless you have earned appropriate AP credits or other college credits. Placement exams must be done prior to you registering for classes.
IMPORTANT NOTE: We recommend students waiting for Calculus or Chemistry AP results still take placement exams prior to class registration in order to register for math and chemistry classes. UH Admissions usually does not receive AP exam scores until early July. Class registration will begin in mid-July. If you don't earn AP credits, the placement exam will allow you to register for a math and chemistry course.
Check expected credits
Advanced Placement Examinations and UH credits - review what credits you will earn based on the score you receive on AP exam.
Course Transfer Database - searchable library of previously evaluated courses. The equivalencies displayed are intended to serve as a guide and are not guaranteed until a formal evaluation is completed.
STAR - after UH Admissions officially reviews your previous college credits and AP exam scores, any credits that transfer will be posted to and viewable on your student record.
TIP: UH Admissions usually does not receive AP exam scores until July. Class registration will begin in mid-July. If you donʻt receive any AP credits, placement exams taken prior to class registration will allow you to register for math and chemistry classes.
TIP: Review math and chemistry concepts before taking the placement exams. There are practice exams on the math placement exam website and sample questions on the chemistry exam website. Do them prior to taking the placement exams!
CoE Undergraduate Handbook - includes information about the placement exams, engineering curriculum, what classes to take, and more.
CoE Checksheets - view the checksheet for your intended major. This shows all the requirements you will take for your degree. The engineering, math and physics courses are listed in the proper order since many courses are prerequisites for future courses.
