Program Description:
NHSEMP Freshman Bridge is a 10-week summer program for traditional, incoming University of Hawaii at Mānoa first-year students interested in majoring in the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics.

PROGRAM ACTIVITIES
Math (Pre-Calculus or Calculus I) & Hawaiian Studies 107 courses for required college credit
Collaborative study sessions led by NHSEMP peer mentors
Faculty-driven STEM research experience (approx. 15-20 hours/week) in on-campus laboratories
Weekly NHSEMP ʻOi Ka Naʻauao Spotlight Series (professional development, cultural activities, guest speakers)
Design and deliver a formal research presentation for the annual NHSEMP Summer Symposium (August 2024)
Summer weekend huakaʻi (availability to be determined)
PROGRAM BENEFITS

Six-week on-campus Freshman Bridge housing & meal plan (expenses paid!) ** availability to be determined

ELIGIBILITY
Spaces are available for traditional incoming, UH Mānoa freshmen interested in the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM).
Eligible applicants are strongly encouraged to apply:
* Students of Native Hawaiian, Polynesian, Alaska Native, or Native American ancestry
HOW DO I APPLY?
Complete and submit your 2024 Freshman Bridge Application packet by April 15, 2024 at 11:59PM HST (new deadline!)
The supplementary documents listed below must be submitted by:

NOTE: Letter(s) of Recommendation must be submitted directly from your references.
High School Transcripts - unofficial copies are allowed. Please include your current courses from this school year 2023-2024.
Letter of Recommendation, One (1) - from teachers, counselors, coaches, supervisors; submitted directly to nhsemp@hawaii.edu

Fill out the form to provide teacher/counselor contact information. The Freshman Bridge Coordinator will directly contact the references you provide.
NOTE: this is a separate form from the Application - please fill it out and submit as soon as possible to provide your references enough time to complete their letters.

i. Work, volunteer, or research experience
ii. Laboratory, computer, technical, or other relevant skills
iii. Honors, awards, and scholarships
iv. Community service, extracurricular activities, or related hobbies you participate in
