Who: Traditional incoming, first-year students to UH Mānoa interested in studying the fields of STEM; the following are encouraged to apply:
Strong interest in / connection to Hawaiian culture, values, and relationship to STEM
Minimal STEM research experience, but highly motivated to learn
What: 8-week STEM summer program that addresses areas of interest for incoming college first-year students: greater preparation for college success (identifying resources and opportunities), comfort within a large university system, and a smooth transition from high school to college.
Students will perform faculty-driven research in university laboratories, participate in ʻOi Ka Naʻauao Spotlight Series (professional development, cultural engagement), enroll in a Hawaiian Studies 107 course for required credit, attend industry site visits, and give a formal research presentation.
Who: Mid-level UH Mānoa or transfer students majoring in STEM or PREN/ENGR who have not performed research/internships prior; the following are encouraged to apply:
Transferring STEM students from the UH CC campuses
Strong interest in / connection to Hawaiian culture, values, and relationship to STEM
What: 8-week STEM summer program that addresses areas of interest: completing STEM gateway courses, transitioning to UH Mānoa, getting involved, and building a network of STEM peers, professors, and industry.
Students will perform faculty-driven research in university laboratories, enroll in a degree-required summer STEM course (3 cr), participate in ʻOi Ka Naʻauao Spotlight Series (professional development, cultural engagement), attend industry site visits, and give a formal research presentation.
