Charlie Martin

Charlie Martin, Class of 1971

Charlie writes: "I started painting only a few years ago. I did a little painting in Mr. Finch's class at Haverford but then stopped and didn't pick up a brush until 2017. I started taking classes and worked primarily in acrylics. After two trips to Africa (Tanzania, Botswana, and S. Africa), I fell in love with the vistas as well as the animals, and started painting those different scenes. I also love different abstract artists (Joan Mitchell, Richard Diebenkorn, Mark Rothko) and have been inspired by their work. I was fortunate to have my abstract "Yellow" accepted into a juried show outside of Philadelphia and have been commissioned by two families in MD and NC. My favorite mentor is a 94 year old abstractionist in Ohio who regularly critiques and guides me over Zoom!"
