25 things the laser can do
This is my project reflection
Using the laser cutter, charlie nickels and i created a board game here are the rules of the game. The Game of Hastings Middle School. Players: 2-4. Ages: 5+. How to play: Player 1 will roll both dice. Once rolled, player 1 will move the same number of spaces the dice add up to. If player 1 lands on an Uh-Oh space roll again. The number that player 1 rolls, look at that same number on the Uh-Oh card and do what is implied. If player 1 lands on a Pride space roll again. The number player 1 rolls, look at that same number on the Pride card and do what is implied. Pride ticket: If player 1 lands on the Pride space and on the second roll player 1 rolls a 2, 5 or 10, player 1 received a pride ticket! You want to end up with the most pride tickets at the end. Count pride tickets space: The first player who passes or lands on the count pride tickets space, have each player count their pride tickets. The person with the most tickets can advance 5 spaces. Short cut: If player 1 lands on a space that has a shortcut attached to it, roll again. If player 1 rolled snake-eyes (doubles) they get to use the shortcut. If player 1 does not receive snake-eyes carry on with the game. APPLY THESE RULES TO EACH PLAYER!
The 7 standards of the class are Empowered Learner, Digital Citizen, Knowledge Constructor, Innovative Designer, Computational Thinker, Creative Communicator, and Global Collaborator. My project ties to all seven standards. During this process i had too learn how the laser cutter worked, I had to learn the digital background knowledge, I had to construct the plan, I had to design the plan, I had to think of how to overcome the challenges that I faced, I had to communicate in a nicely manor to my partner, and I had to collaborate with the outside technology field.
A challenge I overcame on this project was making sure the lines lined up properly with the 3D camera. I was able to do it by a lot of trial and error. I think that i did a good job on making this lined up.
Given a chance to do this again, I would change the neatness of the lines and words on the game board. The reason why I would change it is because with cleaner lines i would have created a better looking game board. Overall i am happy how it turned out.
This project connects to careers in the workforce because with almost any hands on job there is some way where they might need to use a laser cutter like this one. If I ever go into that field of study i will have better background knowledge then most. This project was very fun and i hope to do it again.
