Using Co-spaces, I created a parkour course because I thought it would be fun to create a challenge for someone who likes using FPS mechanics to make there way to the end of a level. This parkour has a somewhat Mario based theme around it, but some components are random including the Co-Space cuboids, living objects, etc. The course is quite moderate for people have at least a little bit of experience with first person games, or parkour games. The parkour includes secrets hidden within the map that add to the challenge of the parkour course.
During this process, I learned how to create my own world in Co-Spaces, and how to be more creative when coming up with ideas and challenges. I also learned how to use coding blocks more in depth, which were useful for adding tedious objects in the players path. Another thing I learned was that you can use Co-Spaces and other online websites/programs to create animated movies/scenes, games, and stories.
The 7 standards of the class are Empowered Learner, Digital Citizen, Knowledge Constructor, Innovative Designer, Computational Thinker, Creative Communicator, and Global Collaborator. My project ties to an Empowered Leaner because I had to be motivated to think of a parkour concept, and also includes the player to be motivated to complete the task. My project requires players to have self efficacy to be motivated to finish the parkour.
A challenge I overcame on this project was coding. I was able to code by using code blocks, it took me a while to understand it but after researching tutorials and experimenting with the different code blocks. I didn't understand how to make an object spin forever. But, I looked in the code blocks gallery and found a spin block, as well as a block that played it forever. Another issue that popped up was that the objects would follow the code in order, instead of moving simultaneously. So I had to found a block that would allow me to make each object run parallel. But I found another block that allowed exactly that, and I was able to move each object at the same time. I learned to code by watching : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hgtcOvKvCik
Given a chance to do this again, I would change the theme and difficulty of my parkour. The reason why I would change it is because I felt like the theme of the world didn't match, I felt like there were too many random objects that didn't follow my original plan to create a Mario based parkour. I also think that parkour itself was a little too easy, even though it was pretty long, I think once people got used to a jump after a couple of tries, the parkour would become easy, and I rather make it more of a challenge so it would take many trials to complete it.
This project connects to careers in Computer Programming and the Digital Multimedia at Hastings High School Career and Technical Education Program. My project contains graphics and video that are included in video games, and also includes coding objects. My project can be shared across the internet to anyone that wants to view it.
