Using cardboard, hot glue, and about a sheet and a half of aluminum foil, we created a model of a the keyboards we use everyday but it seems like ours is much smaller then the actual ones even though it's the exact same size. We created this because we thought it would be interesting to see what it would look like if we made a keyboard out of cardboard, but we found out that the pieces are easy to lose and have different sizes, so it took some time to get this thing made but as you can see by the picture, we did complete it.
During the process of making this I learned that most keys are different sizes and hard to cut out, but it wasn't impossible to do just hard and annoying.
During this process, I learned that the pieces all have different sizes which are close to another size, but not the exact size.
The 7 standards of the class are Empowered Learner, Digital Citizen, Knowledge Constructor, Innovative Designer, Computational Thinker, Creative Communicator, and Global Collaborator. My project ties to Knowledge Knowledge Constructor because it describes my creativity to anybody who looks at it.
A challenge I overcame on this project was trying to cut out the pieces for the keyboard because they were all different sizes which were hard to cut and really easy to lose. I was able to do it by tracing the lines and predicting if the line was at the correct area which half the time it wasn't but that didn't matter we had enough cardboard to cut out more pieces.
Given a chance to do this again, I would change is when we started to cut the corners off the pieces. The reason why I would change it is because it was really ugly to look at and hard to get right the first time because I don't have a precision angle and also it was really worthless to do.
Hastings High School Career and Technical Education Program offers Agriculture, Business Management, Computer Programming, Construction Trades, Culinary Arts, Digital Multimedia, Engineering Design, Finance, Insurance, Marketing. My project connects to the Engineering Design CTE program at Hastings High School. My project connects to careers in Engineering Design like agricultural engineer, computer engineer, aerospace engineer, and all other types of engineers that I couldn't fit on here because their is a lot of different engineers types.
