7P9 Stop-Motion

• Using Legos, my iPad, and i-motion, I created a stop-motion video because I thought it would be fun and creative. Additionally, I wanted to make sure I received a good grade for the assignment. I enjoyed the process because it allowed me to combine my love for building with my interest in digital technology, and it was an exciting challenge to bring my ideas to life through animation.

• During this process, I learned that stop-motion animation takes a lot of time and effort. It involves taking many photos, each one slightly different from the last, to create the illusion of movement. I also realized that the process requires a great deal of patience because it can be easy to get frustrated when things don’t go as planned or when it takes longer than expected to complete each scene.

• In class, we focus on the 7 standards of learning: Empowered Learner, Digital Citizen, Knowledge Constructor, Innovative Designer, Computational Thinker, Creative Communicator, and Global Collaborator. My project ties to the “Empowered Learner” standard because I had the freedom to decide what I would build for my stop-motion video. I chose the storyline and designed the characters, giving me the opportunity to take control of my learning and express my ideas through the project.

• A challenge I faced during this project was coming up with a story. I wasn’t sure how to move the plot forward in some parts of the video. To overcome this, I asked my friend Shelby if she had any ideas for the next scene. Her suggestions helped me think of new ways to continue the story, and it made the process much easier and more enjoyable.

• If I had the chance to do this project again, I would change how some of the scenes are put together. Specifically, I would make sure that the movements of the characters are more aligned with the flow of the story. For example, the main character moves before the villain appears, which creates a little confusion. I would adjust the scenes so that the actions happen in a more logical order.

• Hastings High School’s Career and Technical Education (CTE) program offers many exciting fields of study, including Agriculture, Business Management, Computer Programming, Construction Trades, Culinary Arts, Digital Multimedia, Engineering Design, Finance, Insurance, and Marketing. My stop-motion project connects to the Digital Multimedia program at Hastings High School, as it involves using digital tools and creative design to produce a video.

• In addition, my project also connects to careers in multimedia, specifically those related to account executives in the digital media field. Account executives in multimedia often work with clients to create digital content, which is similar to the process I went through in my stop-motion project. Both require knowledge of digital tools, creativity, and an understanding of how to communicate ideas through media.
