Using a Cricut, I created a sweatshirt design because I've always wanted to make one myself. And I thought it would be cool to have at wrestling meets and tournaments. Also I could wear it to practice to lose weight because it is a thicker sweatshirt.
During this process, I learned how to use a Cricut and how to us the tools to peel away the extra vynil and how to use the heat press to put the vynil to the sweatshirt. I also learned that you need to wash the clothes first before the heat press.
The 7 standards of the class are Empowered Learner, Digital Citizen, Knowledge Constructor, Innovative Designer, Computational Thinker, Creative Communicator, and Global Collaborator. My project is tied to Innovative Design because I thought outside the box, designed something, and had to navigate through problems and make prototypes. And one of my main problems was the vinyl not sticking to the cloths because I forgot to wash it to get the chemicals off it.
A challenge I overcame in this project was the teeding. And I did this by taking my time peeling it and having to do a whole other print because I rushed the first one. And the second print I took my time and was patient and it was a success.
Given a chance to do this again, I would change how I didn't wash the sweatshirt before putting on the vinyl. The reason why I would change it because it didn't want to stick. And the repeated heat pressing started to burn the plastic on the cloths, and because of the there is a yellow hue where the plastic was.
Hastings High School Career and Technical Education Program offers Agriculture, Business Management, Computer Programming, Construction Trades, Culinary Arts, Digital Multimedia, Engineering Design, Finance, Insurance, and Marketing. My project connects to the Engineering Design CTE program at Hastings High School. Because use engineering technology and techniques to create garments and fashion tools.
My project connects to careers in Fashion Stylist because I styled the clothing with a two designs one being a picture and the other being a quote from the bible. And because I selected a clothing and added accessories to it and made sure it fit the sweatshirt. And worked with photography by taking pictures of it like a fashion stylists would.
