Here is a picture of the top of my board, you can see that I had to put some of them in the middle of the board since there's 50 states and only 40 spaces along the edge of the board, but I wanted to put all of the states on the board.
Here are some close up pictures of the board so you can see some examples of what I wrote for some of them and some pictures I used.
Here is a video all the way around my Monopoly board where you can see all of the facts and pictures.
Using CoSpaces, I created a Monopoly Board with all 50 U.S. States and a fact and picture for all of them. I decided to make this because I saw someone do a Monopoly board on Google, and I thought it was a cool idea and the thought to do the states and facts just kind of popped into my head. The states are in alphabetical order and the facts are really random, they range from a state nickname to a place in the state to a famous person born there, etc.
During this process, I learned a lot of things. I learned more ways to use CoSpaces other than animating it, when I thought of doing a board. I also learned how to upload pictures to CoSpaces and adjust them to the size and place I wanted them. Even when I was on the last couple states and had been making it for a long time, I still had some troubles and forgot to do some things that should’ve been a really simple thing to remember, but that’s just something that’ll take time and practice to remember.
The 7 standards of the class are Empowered Learner, Digital Citizen, Knowledge Constructor, Innovative Designer, Computational Thinker, Creative Communicator, and Global Collaborator. My project ties to creative thinker because normally people use CoSpaces to code and animate scenes, but I used it in a different, creative way and made it all on my own.
A challenge I overcame on this project was teaching myself how to upload pictures and make it the size I want and put everything in the right spots. I also had a hard time trying to figure out what facts to use for every state and a picture for all of them, but I just looked at the facts for every state I was deciding between and looked for pictures of all of them, and decided which ones I liked best.
Given a chance to do this again, I’m not sure if I would change anything, but I might add something more in the middle of the board since it’s kind of plain right now.
Hastings High School Career and Technical Education Program offers Agriculture, Business Management, Computer Programming, Construction Trades, Culinary Arts, Digital Multimedia, Engineering Design, Finance, Insurance, Marketing. My project connects to the engineering design CTE program at Hastings High School. My project connects to careers in geography because it tells you something that might not be well-known about the U.S. states.
