Reflection
Using CoSpaces and iMovie, I created a project that depicts the end of the world because I thought it would be an exciting and creative idea to explore. This project allowed me to combine storytelling with virtual reality tools to bring my vision to life. The process was both challenging and rewarding, as it pushed me to think critically and experiment with new techniques. Overall, it was a fun and engaging way to express my creativity.
During this project, I learned how to create virtual reality environments, which was a completely new skill for me. It was fascinating to see how digital tools could bring my ideas to life in an interactive way. The experience taught me the basics of VR design and programming, which I found both challenging and rewarding. Learning these skills expanded my understanding of technology and how it can be used creatively.
The seven standards of our class are Empowered Learner, Digital Citizen, Knowledge Constructor, Innovative Designer, Computational Thinker, Creative Communicator, and Global Collaborator. My project connects to the Empowered Learner standard because I had the freedom to choose what I wanted to create and design it independently. This allowed me to take ownership of my learning and explore my interests in virtual reality. By following this standard, I was able to develop my creativity and problem-solving skills.
One challenge I faced during this project was figuring out how to bring my ideas to life. At first, I wasn’t sure how to design my project, but I overcame this by trying different approaches and experimenting with what looked best. This trial-and-error process helped me learn and refine my skills along the way. In the end, I was able to create a project I was proud of by staying persistent and open to new ideas. Overcoming this challenge made the final result even more rewarding.
If I had the chance to redo this project, I would change the size of the city and make it smaller. A smaller city would allow me to focus more on adding detail and improving the overall design. I believe this change would make the project more visually appealing and immersive. By refining these elements, I could create a more polished and engaging final product. This adjustment would enhance the overall quality of my work.
My project connects to the Computer Programming Career and Technical Education (CTE) program offered at Hastings High School. This program includes pathways like Agriculture, Business Management, Engineering Design, Culinary Arts, and Digital Multimedia. Through my work, I explored programming concepts by designing and animating elements in a virtual reality environment. The skills I used and developed align with the goals of the Computer Programming CTE program, emphasizing creativity and technical knowledge. This connection shows how my project ties classroom learning to real-world career opportunities.
My project connects to careers in virtual reality, such as VR game development and programming. I programmed elements within my VR environment to move, which introduced me to the basics of animation and interactivity. This experience mirrors the skills needed in the field of VR development, where creating interactive and immersive experiences is key. By working on this project, I gained insight into how programming can bring virtual worlds to life. It was a valuable step toward understanding the potential of VR in professional settings.
