Are you working by yourself or in a team?
I am working by myself, but It is a competition between 3 other people for this project!
What materials will you need for your project?
Some materials I will need for my project are the Classroom Tello drone, my Chromebook, and the drone controller + manual.
What is your plan to create in this project?
My plan is to create a cool coding "show" with my drone, and get it to play a song whilst in the air.
What unique qualities will your project have?
A unique quality my project will have is that it will be an original idea (at least to my knowledge) and hopefully be entertaining to others.
Today, I firstly got out the drone, and I'm starting to learn how to fly it...The controller was dead though, and I didn't really get much time to test it at all, but there is always Day 2!
Today, I was absent, so I did no work.
Today, I started looking at the website, and I'm setting up a practice code for my drone.
Today, I Worked more on coding, but my drone batteries started to die out so I had to cut that early.
Today, I am starting to write jingle bells for my practice/idea, it took a while to transfer notes to a treble clef though.
Today, I am deciding to find another song to play, but if all goes wrong..then it has to be jingle bells.
Today, I started to type my resolution and wrap up my project. But I was absent.
Today, I am absent, but I decided to switch songs, because my progress has gotten deleted. I also finished my resolution.
Today, I am recording my drone Coding, and turning in my project.
Using the classroom Tello Coding Drone, I created an entertaining musical sequence. I chose to make this because I really like to present my creative talents for the contest, and to learn how to make music on drones! Also, I wanted to show my skills that I learned within the span of 4-5 days of coding!
During this process, I learned how to code a Tello Drone for the first time. It started off with me not knowing anything, and crashing into things. As time went on, I read the manual and watched videos on how to work it and then I learned how to control the drone, and make it fly, move, and flip! I also learned how to create musical sequences on the drone, I learned how to make the drone sing songs like Jingle Bells, Silent Night, and my project song.
The 7 standards of the class are Empowered Learner, Digital Citizen, Knowledge Constructor, Innovative Designer, Computational Thinker, Creative Communicator, and Global Collaborator. My project ties to an Innovative Designer because I used a classroom Coding Tello Drone, and came up with a creative project to make with it. I also had to test out my coding process, and adjust it until it fit in a neat way. Another reason why is because I had patience while coding, it took time to type and set up my processes, and overcoming trial and error a few times.
A challenge I overcame on this project was learning how to control the remote to make the drone do things. I was able to do it by reading the manual multiple times, and asking peers for help. I was also able to do it by watching the videos that came on the website. Another challenge I overcame was my progress getting deleted, and me having to restart while I was absent. I wasn't able to listen or see what my drone was doing, so I had to trust myself.
Given a chance to do this again, I would change the way I presented my project. The reason why I would change it is because I hadn't fully processed the way to "Code" the drone until we had less than 2 class periods left. This made my project look a little odd, and I wasn't satisfied with the way it came out.
Hastings High School Career and Technical Education Program offers Agriculture, Business Management, Computer Programming, Construction Trades, Culinary Arts, Digital Multimedia, Engineering Design, Finance, Insurance, Marketing. My project connects to the Engineering Design CTE program at Hastings High School. The reason my project connects to the Engineering Design CTE program is because I had to create a unique project with a Coding Drone. Another reason it also connects is because I had to set up a creative system with the coding for my project, and set up many components with my project to get it how I'd like it to turn out.
My project connects to careers in Robotic Engineering because a Robotic Engineer's job is to develop operational algorithms for things like drones, and I had coded and set up a drone. Robotic Engineers also deal with a lot of problem solving challenges, and I feel like I overcame multiple challenges with coding, and learning how to work the drone during this project. Overall, my project connects to Robotic Engineering because they both deal with making a "machine" process information, and do physical tasks.
