Using the classroom button maker, I created buttons because making buttons seemed like a good partner project and it seemed like something fun and new to learn! Another reason why is because it seemed like a good idea to create tiny gifts for friends and family to pin on something. Lastly, I created buttons to show some things I like and enjoy, such as my favorite shows, and flowers!
During this process, I learned how to correctly use the classroom button maker. It really took a while for me and my partner to get used to it though. We had well over 2-3 class periods used up trying to figure it out. We also learned how to create our buttons, with printing photos, quotes, coloring, and the correct cutting measurements, which also took a while to understand.
The 7 standards of the class are Empowered Learner, Digital Citizen, Knowledge Constructor, Innovative Designer, Computational Thinker, Creative Communicator, and Global Collaborator. My project ties to an Innovative Designer, because I was trying out a button maker for the first time, going through obstacles that I overcame and made correct overtime during this project. Also, my partner and I came up with creative and unique ideas for our buttons, making them describe thing we enjoy and do.
A challenge I overcame on this project was getting the images onto the buttons, and finalized. I was able to do it by rewatching the videos, and attempting different methods. One method we tried that worked, was minimizing the image size, we had realized that they were pretty big and they were likely our problem. Another thing we managed to learn and fix was paying attention to what we were really doing, often times the clear layer for the buttons would double up and cause an issue, so we learned to take our time, and check everything carefully.
Given a chance to do this again, I would change the sizes of our images, and way we made our buttons The reason why I would change it is because the photos we had printed were pretty big, and we didn't realize until it was too late, so we had to end up cutting a few of them, making our buttons off and not in the way we liked. The reason I would change the way we made our buttons was because of the mess, it was hard and easy to mess up the buttons, some of them would fold and bend in all sorts of directions.
Hastings High School Career and Technical Education Program offers Agriculture, Business Management, Computer Programming, Construction Trades, Culinary Arts, Digital Multimedia, Engineering Design, Finance, Insurance, Marketing. My project connects to the Engineering design CTE program at Hastings High School. It connects to Engineering design, because we were designing, our own buttons, with images and a few quotes off of google. We had followed step by step instructions, and made the buttons individually as carefully as we could, plus it turned out pretty well.
My project connects to careers in quality controlled specializing, because we were carefully making buttons to the best of our ability. Looking carefully at images, and ideas that would be appropriate and fun for this activity. Another reason is that we were carefully inspecting our buttons when they were done being made to make sure they were good enough for this project, or else they would be scrapped, or given to me.
