This is the picture I saw that inspired my idea, and I wanted to make something similar but more creative.
This is my camper in progress. You can seee how I duct taped the popsicle sticks to make it able to be flimsy and be able to curve.
This is my final prokect. The picture to the right is the front and the picture to the left is the back.
This is a video of my door that when you manually open it, it will automatically shut when you release it.
For my choice project I made a popsicle stick camper. My camper is more of a rounded shape, but that is exactly what I was trying to do. I wasn't trying to make it a regular trailer, I wanted to make it a cute simple little camper. My camper has wheels, windows, and a door that will open if you pull it and shut automatically when you let go. I tried to add as much to it with the time I had even though the base took a big chunk of my work time.
In this project I did learn some new things but that was based off of trials that I had to do. This project was mostly just thought up as I went because I never watched any tutorials. I would say that I learned how to make the curve on the front and back. I learned that if you just glue sticks together it isn't going to be flexible. I also learned that when you cut the popsicle sticks you should probably be more careful when you cut the sticks because they come flying off when they are being cut. Other than those two learning experiences, I think that I mostly has a good idea about what I was doing.
I definitely think that out of the seven standards of the class, this project ties to Innovative Design, Empowered Learner, and a little bit of Digital Citizen. I say innovative designer because this design mostly came all from my head and I think that I was very innovative in this project. I also say an empowered learner because with all of my trials of new things that I could do to make it more sturdy I learned a lot of what to do and what not to do. Lastly, I said a little bit of digital citizen because I did look up ideas for this project and a picture did inspire this idea.
In this project I for sure overcame a big challenge which was put the curvature on the sides of the camper. I thought of many things that I could try and I tried just gluing sticks together but clearly that didn't work to get the product I wanted. So, I tried lining up the popsicle sticks in a row and just laying duct tape over it to maybe get the flimsiness that I was hoping for, and it successfully worked.
I don't think that I would do anything differently with the design I would just maybe make it a little bit smaller and make it a little more clean and less stringy with the hot glue. I think that if I wanted to, I could probably try to pull the camper with a dash, but unfortunately I didn't have enough time. I would only make the camper smaller for the reason of traveling purposes because I feel like this one would not survive a trip home. Otherwise, I don't think that I would change much.
I think that this project would tie to engineering. I say this because it is coming up with your own design and making something new of your own. I think that this project would also tie to the engineering design class at the high school. I think this class because it is creating stuff yourself and make new things that you think of yourself.
