Tool: 3D Printer
List of 25:
This is my 3D design before it is printed. Through the tunnal there is an open tube going all throughout the design that way everything is open and sound will come out clearly.
This is my final printed design. It wasn't as thick as I would like it to be but it still serves its purpose.
This is a video of my speaker in action and the sound that it gives off.
(I didn't play it too loud)
My object is a phone speaker. It is measured to fit up to the size of an IPhone XR, which is what my phone is. This speaker delivers sound very well because of its cone shaped ends. I tried to make a little edge inside of the speaker for the phone to rest on, that way it would stand up properly, but unfortunately I didn't have time.
In this project I learned to join the whole product together all in one. I also learned how to see the hole in the design which I could not figure out before. While experimenting in this project, I finally learned about how the sizing works and what my actual size is going to be, and that is really important in this project that way we know that the phone would fit in in the hole for where it would stand. That was the main thing that I learned that really helped me in this project, without knowning the sizing I would not be able to make this design work for the phone that I would like for it to fit.
This project tied to a few things in the 7 standards of the class. I think that it tied to an innovative designer, digital citizen, and empowered learner. I say innovative designer because I designed this project all by myself and thought of it myself. I was being a digital cititzen because I used the digital world, because of the building on the website, watching youtube videos, and looking up measurements of the object I would need the speaker to fit. And lastly, I think this tied to an empowered learner because I learned new skills on Tinkercad and I learned new things. These are the 3 standards that I think my project ties to.
One challenge that I over came was trying to fit another shape inside of the other to create a hole. This was hard for me because the measurements wouldn't correspond with each other. This got a little annoying after a while but I never gave up. I decided that this would never be perfect and so I got it the best I could and I think that it looks good. Another challenge with the hole was the angle that it went at. It took me a lot of tries to perfect it, but I did.
Something that I would do differently in this project would be maybe a different design as a whole. I would try to make it more of a challenging design rather than to what I did. I honestly couldn't think of anything that I would do differently about the design that I have right now. If I had to change anything on this design though, I would probably change the little tunnels to come out of the front that way it would have a more direct sound to it. To add to the design I have right now though, I would put a back on the speaker for a better place for the phone to rest against.
This project could tie to engineering because I came up with the design all by myself. I think that this project would also tie to the engineering design class at the high school. I say this because it deals with designing new things and creating new things and that is what I did.
