Governor Ron DeSantis has recently announced that the school system in Florida will be abolished, and that all school will be canceled. The state government believes that certain AP classes, specifically AP Calculus, are leftist instruments of Critical Race Theory. He wants to create a new education system in Florida to combat “the Leftists” from instilling their beliefs in youths. The Education and Labor committee unanimously decided that this will not do. Representatives from both political parties worked with fellow committee members to draft bills that will ensure education for the US citizens of Florida.
The Democrats in the committee created several bills regarding the crisis, but only one was passed. This bill is named “Attacking Non-Transgender Ideology for America.” It was also dubbed the “Antifa Act.” Authors of this bill believe it’s important to protect the people of Florida from DeSantis’s radical agenda. This bill would create extensive sex education in the Florida school system. Fourth-grade students would receive the brunt of this new policy, but sex education will continue throughout high school. LGBTQ+ education will be added to their courses, and new AP classes such as “AP Pride'' would be created. This act would also force Florida to secede from the union, with the exception of Miami and Tampa. To replace this loss, Puerto Rico would be granted statehood. Finally, this bill would force all gun sellers to convert their stores into Planned Parenthood Clinics. These clinics will be required to provide abortions, as well as other healthcare resources. Finally, the new National Anthem of the United States will be changed to “Sweater Weather” by The Neighborhood.
The Republicans in the committee presented a solid front and staunchly opposed this bill. They believe that Democrats hate America. They proposed a bill that would create classes such as “AP American Pride” to ensure that the “Liberal agenda” will not corrupt America’s education system. They also proposed to abolish the College Board. They would replace it with a new board that would create classes that would bolster American pride and nationalism. This bill did not receive enough votes, and therefore was not passed. The Education and Labor Committee continues to work towards solutions, but the future of Florida’s education system remains up in the air.
